Best Wishes to Todd Lahey
 

The message below is from the Caring Bridge journal for today, We are all praying for Todd as he undergoes his transplant tomorrow!

"We hope that everyone had a great weekend. We had a blood test today and then an appointment with the nurse. Todd's platelets were low, so he got his first platelet transfusion today. Everything went fine. They just hooked up the bag of platelets to his line and it took about one and half hours. Not bad at all. Todd just has one more dose of the Busulfan (his chemo) and we need to be at the hospital at 8:00 tomorrow morning. We are anxious and nervous, but ready! It was 90 today, pretty hot in our apartment, it should cool down by the end of the week!! Thanks again for all the love and support! Have a great Monday! "

Thanks For all the well wishes!
I am felling pretty good they really have this down. As soon as I start felling bad they give me some meds and it settles down.
The nurse just came into the room and told me that the donor's bone marrow is due here tomorrow around 11pm.
So we are looking forward to that!!
I hope that you all are out enjoying your summer on the water and I can't wait to going you next year!
The hospital room I am in looks over Lake Washington here in Seattle so it is nice watch all the boats.

from yesterday! FRIDAY, JUNE 30, 2006 02:05 AM, CDT


The transplant is underway!!! Todd started receiving the cells at 10:39 p.m. our time. They received 1900 CCs about 2 liters, which they said it a bunch of cells. This is not a bad thing at all, Mesha our nurse told us that it is better to have more cells than not enough. The transplant will take about 9 hours. Right now Todd is feeling fine. They will come in and check his vitals ever hour during the transplant to make sure he is not having a reaction to the new cells. Not much else will go on tonight, we are not sure how much sleep we will get. We are both excited, but anxious and nervous at the same time. I posted some pictures on the shutterfly site! It is pretty amazing. I will post more in the morning. Happy Friday!! Love to all! : )

Well.....
I have the stuff!
The marrow showed up last night around 10:30. They hooked me up and it took till 8:30 this morning to all infuse. I recieved two litters of marrow. Now the wait begins the new marrow usually takes 21 days to engraft (start working).

Things are going as expected good days and a few bad but it is all part of it!

JB I would love to take you up on that and hopefully we can make that work out.

jhiguy yes we are at the Hutch. I will be here most likely until October. Unfortunatly I will most likely be still in the hospital until the first week of August. If I were to get out before then I will still not be able to go anywhere but back and fourth from the apt to the hutch for a while. For the first three months after the transplant it will be very easy for me to get an infection because I will have a very suppresed imune system. Thank you so much for the offer we would love to. If thigs change for the better I will let you know!

Hello, Todd is still being a trooper. The morphine he is getting is helping with his throat pain but nothing seems to be helping with his headache. He is still running a bit of a fever right now it is at 100.5. He has been taking Tylenol all day to help keep the fever under control. They still believe that the headache is related to the fever. He also received two units of blood today. He is still on IV fluids and they are going to give him IV nutrition tonight starting at 9. He is still eating a little but not too much so they figured they would go ahead and start the nutrition so he doesn't need to force food. They have assured us again today that everything that Todd is experiencing is all part of the transplant process. It is always nice to keep hearing that things are on track and going as they expected. Thanks again for everything. The prayers, loving notes and positive thoughts help us to keep the faith and keep fighting! Love to all. . .
