Buying bulk gas??
#1
Anyone know anything about buying gas like a gas station would? I am thinking that with all the cars I have and also the boat and friends, I could go through a few thousand gallons a month. Would it be worth getting this started? Anyone know what a gas station actually pays for go juice? I can get a 1000 gallon tank.

I don't know about bulk, however I built a 120 gallon gas trailer to fill up at the local Sheetz, took a tank off a tractor trailer, mounted on a old seadoo trailer, 12 volt gas pump and 220 feet in hose. I am saving $50 a weekend

I keep my boat on a trailer so I can have the tank at the house. Just wondering where to even find a place to buy in bulk like the service stations do. I am going to start calling people in the phone book and see what they say.

If you have a private company, that may work, regulations are pretty tight as to who they can sell bulk fuel to. The state air quality control agencys are who I might check with first to see if they will allow it.I do not know the regulations for your area, but You have to mark the tank with a UN Number, and have all the proper safety equipment to store past a certian amount of fuel or any other chemical. Fines are steep. In the short run you may not save $$.

I had local gas wholesaler instal tank and plumber instal pvc lines 150ft, cost was about 1300. the tank is 550 gal. cost of gas is about what you pay at local gas station. Its gravity fed.

generally when a station sells gasoline they barely (if at all) cover the cost of operating the pumps and replacing equipment when it breaks.
The reason stations do this is t attract the walk in custoemer who buy a candy bar or a soda, that is where the money is made. Most stations actually lose money if you pay with discover, who happens to have a 4% credit transaction fee.
Given the slim margins, I doubt it would pay for itself. You definately could pay less for fuel, but not enough less to cover the other cost incured...
