All these complaints about various articles and this and that, and all the complaint letters you read in HotBoat, Powerboat, Extremeboats, etc etc It never seems like the readers are all happy? I think that is the goal of any boating mag. (though not feasible).
What would you put in your magazine?
Technical info and stories?
Upgrades on older boats?
High end out of reach (for most) boat tests/reviews?
entry level boat tests/reviews?
Deck boats?
Ski boats?
cross breads?
Destination stories?
Race coverage? (but which race coverage?)
Poker run coverage?
motor builder/mechanic shop profiles?
Bringing back the dead (old boat restores)
Where are they now?
Local boating areas across the nation?
Electronics?
Etc. etc. etc.....
What else? I see most of this stuff in all the mags that are on the market. What about some new, fresh ideas? What would YOU do?!

Just keep true to your message and your readership. My main gripe about PB is that they cover center consoles, bowriders, some cruisers, deck boats, even bass boats. But what is on every cover? Either a cat or a v-hulled offshore. Why? Because cover photos of bass boats and deck boats don't sell magazines. Offshores do. If you're going to cover all those different kinds of boats, don't put yourself out there as a resource for offshore performance boat fanatics like they do. Especially when offshore performance boat manufacturers and aftermarket parts account for probably 95% of your ad space and, therefore, revenue.
They've alienated the largest part of their readership and each issue was getting worse than the one before with the exception of the most recent one with the blue cig on the cover.

An honest boat review would be nice. It seems that every boat reviewed is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Great topic....I've wanted to start a similar thread for a while.
Can't wait to see some answers to your questions. And would love to hear your ideas about things to cover.
In the upcoming issue of EBM, you'll read about who won the OSO Cig Raffle. Speed School in Pickwick and I took a test ride in this .... thing. www.seaphantom.com
As you might or might not know, I write for Extreme Boats Mag. We try to bring you the High Performance Boating Lifestyle. Fun in the sun, hot boats, hot girls and cool drinks, with some race coverage and poker runs thrown in for good measure. Its all done in a fun and informative fashion.
We hope you enjoy the show!

Honest reviews of boats.....
More comparisons of boats..... similar to what consumer reports does.....grade the boats on different subjects. Handling, acceleration using the same engines, top speed, overall comfort, space in cockpits, ease of working on the motors, overall construction.......there are a million different topics that a boat can be graded on. Give a best buy for a group of boats within a length 25-27ft 30-33ft and so on.
