Thanks for all the positive feedback guys/gals, and for those who knock the idea of me owning a 41 someday can kiss my A**. It's the fact that Apache is still a legend in my book and that the majority of them that were built back in the 1980's are still around today. Yes there are faster and lighter boats then Apache's but thats just fine with me because there will always be a bigger faster boat anyways....... the day i pull up next to you on the water with a 41-47 Apache i will smile and wave at you reguadless of what brand of boat you have because i know its what you worked hard for and what you wanted.........we are all here to have fun with our toys on the water and everything else is just B.S.

I am 100% with you on that. I don't own one yet but I wil some day. There is something to be said about owning a legend thats built like a battle ship.

Without intending to knock any other boat brand,,,, if a bunch of boats are at the dock and one them is a nice old Apache, people will walk right by all the other boats to get a look at the "real thing". At least those people that know anything about offshore boats will.

Speed, speed, speed. Who cares. Anything can be made to go fast. Cool is cool, Apaches are cool. Tough is tough, Apaches are tough. History is important, Apaches wrote some of the best history.

If I could own one, I would. (and so would most of the other guys here that won't admit it)

I own an OL and still walk past my own brand to see both the Apachee's and classic Cig's. The style and history behind them never gets old.

And that is very cool that you appreciate that history.

Of course, as soon as I was done checking the old Apache at the dock,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I'd be heading for your OL!!! :D

It all comes down to what ya like I guess...

I'd rather have a restored 69-71 Camaro SS or a 57 Chevy with a tube frame, tubbed out with a big block blower motor sticking out the hood instead of a new Corvette....

Old muscle Cars are the bomb, the new Mustangs, Corvetts etc. are for sissys! This is why I like Apache's and Cigs. :drink:

You mean Fountains actually have mechanical breakdowns like other boats? Don't say it's so? You do realize that Ben and Bob didn't finish that race, right? They BROKE.

Early in the vid, the landings looked a little violent, kinda bow heavy. I would have thought to trim it up a little and land a little more "mid" - but, I guess if the wave pattern was really uncommon, it would leave you really susceptible to a full on stuff, or a big launch followed by a nasty "trip".

Fanatic, yes, the boats and cars out of the factory today are faster then those from the past......but were not talking speed here......we are talking about legends.......and the saying is they don't make them like they used too.....thats why we restore these gem's because its a part of our history....so yeah if you want to compare new and old we know which one is probaly going to win........but honestly sometimes there is more to it then just speed.........and i know there are some fast old school Apache's around that will give the boats of today a run for their money~

The point is, you can't change the rules and the venue and claim it's the same record. Everyone knows that if you were to take the boats racing "offshore" today and run the same circuit they did in '84, not a single one would be competitive over the course of the season.

What does a 2006 Bayliner and an 41 foot race Apache have in common?

They shine in the ruff stuff, at Smoke on the water, the 4, 41 Sabers showed what the 41's can do in the right water. If you live where the water gets big they still after all these years do a great job. Most of the boats on the first half of the run broke or didn't want to go out for the second half of the poker run. The dvd will be worth buying if you like air time shots. I love mine.

What a great clip. balls to the wall offshore.

Offshore racing is real !! we ran to POPRA/AMF Catalina Island Rum Run and back only last month. We ran the **** out of the platinum ask anyone on the run. steady run with speeds approaching 130 mph in seas.70 mile open ocean race. Only 25 boats showed for the event ...but these guys had the BALLS to do it. Offshore still lives in most of us on the racing circuit.

Hats off to the old guard ..that type of racing is very challenging ....

You'll see more of it from team AMF in the not to distant future. Haggin and team has set out to make a mark in offshore ..

We have a little surprise coming for you guys :evilb: :D
