used tow vehicle... for under $5k?

Kook, I'd go with 4x4, it's great insurance
IF you need it! I rarely ever use the 4wd system on my Ford F250 (thanks to limited slip!). I usually used it to back the boat &
trailer UP my driveway (activating the 6 wheel drum surge brakes) and 4 wheel low range was the only way! Heck I even pushed alot of snow in mostly 2wd!
Just my .02
PS It looks like I'll be selling my trusty 1994 Ford F250 xcab 4x4 XLT Lariat if anyones interested email me!

Mid 80s Ramcharger with 440 and a Torgueflite tranny.
I'll take a 440 over a 351 any day, that's not to say that 351s are bad I just rather have the grunt of a big block when towing.

I picked up a 1986 GMC 3/4 Ton 4x4 last year for $1800. It is in real nice shape, pw, pdl, ac and auto. It has a 350 4bbl. I didn't really need it, but it was too good a buy to pass up. I pull my 28 foot aft cabin with it with no problems. As for 4wd, it is rarely needed unless the tide is way out and I have to back down on the slimy part of the boat ramp. The trannie is a turbo 400, which is a tough trannie. It is a great tow vehicle, especially for short hauls to the ramp. Is does like its gas, but when you are used to buying gas for a boat, it seems like an econo car!!! Look around and find something like this if you can, they are out there, and many times you can get a better buy on a 4wd than a 2wd in used trucks. Good luck!
