well sheri handed me a bill tonight for a year of boating. ouch! she told me if i wanted to sell the cig she had no problem with that. man married to a cpa is tuff. never short on words i told her i would love to sell the boat. but i think fatboy (38 topgun w/1000's) would cost us more to run in a year then our boat. she did not think that has to funny. so what is your yearly cost to run? payments, insurance, repairs, fuel, travel etc ???

Take the 103k I lost in the National deal and the previous ripoff and amortize that over the last 3 years and you understand why I am just now starting to shop again......

Todd are you kidding, did she really do that. Remind her she was almost as gung-ho as you in getting it. Cosmic I am with you I keep telling Mr P I am going to total the cost up, but frankly I am afraid to :D

Slandrew I guess it depends on what you are counting, if you have payments on the boats, (like we do), insurance, lots and lots of money for parts, storage, gas, poker run fees, overnight dockage, bar bills :drink: and the countless hours Mr P works on it, the cost could be HUGE:eek: and we just have a slug boat, can't imagine what those guys in the 100 MPH club spend  but I guess all is realative.

Todd, this is a bad time to pose this question, when our credit card bill came a week ago I let it sit unopened for a few days until I got my courage up to look:D

Re: the bill

$24,000.00 and the boat still only has 1 out of two working engines. I also just got news that I need to have the blower rebuilt for the secound time this year (Same blower, I question if mechanic #1 ever had it rebuilt).
This does not include attorneys fee's

I have a firm policy: ANY receipts under 500 bucks (some of you may have to adjust that figure up a bit  ) doesnt come home with me... Makes my boating MUCH more economical :D :D

However, compared to what my bar bill, mistress's, psychiatrist and divorce atorney would cost, boating is cheap... :drink:

Yeah...this year hurt the wallet...gas prices sucked, burned over 1K in gas in 5 days at LOTO, then came home and scattered an upper. Rebuilt both drives for about 6K, plus 2K for the slip, over 1K for insurance...plus the payments...oh man... I think I'm gonna have a movement!

The same rules apply to boating as they do to racing, you hide receipts all over the place and then forget where you put them. It's the only way you can really enjoy either sport. :drink:

I'm with ya -

My wife thinks I'm nuts for working my a off at a MB dealership then spending every spare moment working on everyone's boats - but the rides are awesome - the $$ is good - and the comraderie is priceless.

Ever seen a Hurst pull a U Haul?? Ya won't at my funeral either!!

I've got my personal baloon note down to $65,000 bucks , I don't have a boat though. But I've got some sick a s s molds , a debt free boat company and I'm building me a boat next year. Not bad considering I was $ 400,000 in debt after being a boat dealer and racing.

The only annual expense I know each and every year is my federal income tax return is used for gas and it isn't enough.

Re: the bill

I know what you mean about the 'bill'. I did this a couple of years ago and about had a heart-attack. :D

You guys are going to laugh... I kind of found a way around it last year when my better half pointed out how much fun she though it would be to try going out on a catamaran (sailing) after she saw a couple of guys all hiked out on the trapezes of some beachcat. Agreeing with her, I thought about it later and decided to see what one costs. After seeing they cost peanuts, I decided to say WTF... why not. I never considered myself a sailing kind of guy (and I still wont get on a monoslug!), but I have to say I've learned a lot and we have had a blast with the little cat! It's just so much fun to hang out on the wire on those things! Anyway, the big boat hasn't been in the water once this year and frankly we've had the time of our life on the beachcat. Is it the same as ripping around on the big cat? No. Do I think anyone on this site would 'convert'? No. Is it as much fun as being out on the big boat? Yes, but in a different way...

Oh yeah, total cost of boating this year for us has been <$100... and most of that has been for fuel in the car (yes car) dragging the beachcat to different distance races. :drink:

I'm not laughing now but I'm sure lot's of people laughed at you this summer as they blew by you! :D

Re: the bill

I understand the attempt with the beachcat very well, I rent frequently a little motorboat for about 20 $ each hour as it gives the allowed max speed on our smaller lake and a go-fast doesnt make any sense there. It is so comfortable to rent - no sick experiences with hauling, at the ramp... even no extra gas money. Well I better dont mention the "speed" in hp or mph.
But I have fun on the lake !!!
A real boat on the larger lake will be a must for me, even though I will go only with more than 22 knots in the night when nobody will be able to read my registration number.
It is one of the most gorgeous lakes I know.

I don't know what it costs. Don't want to know what it costs.

What I do know is that it's cheaper than regular trips to a mental health professional and all the drugs associated with that sort of care. :D

So yeah, it's a health care deduction..... :D

Don't do it man. Once you get that number in your head, there's no plausible deniability. :D :D

Seriously, the nickel and dime stuff adds up so fast it'll make your head spin.

Payments, Insurance, Fuel, Truck used only to tow boat, poker run entry's, fuel, did I say fuel.

WOW = $30K

I'm embarrassed to see it in print. Never gave it that much thought before.

But we really use out boat. 400 Hours and counting, 25 poker runs and a LOT of fun and good friends.

You only live once, RIGHT?

Man I bet "Dave Ramsey" would have a field day with us.

Would my wife let me sell the boat? HELL NO

Re: the bill

Who cares how much it cost. When you're runnin' through 3 ft'rs at 70+ with your hair on fire nothing else matters when you're "in the moment" and it takes some skill and concentration. The last thing I think about is money. I think about making money all the time and boating gets me not to think about it. If I had a lot more to spend I'd have a 46 Cigarette, If I had a lot less I'd have a 16 Donzi.
You can't put a price on this, f it, ya only live once.
