What's the best 4-stroke 90HP outboard???
#11

We have found the 4 strokes heavy and they dont seem to have the same power delivery as the two strokes. The cost difference is substantial and I think that the manufacturers are pushing the 4 strokes too much. Given the money that Merc has in the Verado do they have a choice not to try and sell it like crazy? That thing weighs over 650lbs for one engine and its HUGE. It all boils down to preference but, I dont think that the 2 strokes are dead yet. We have E techs here with 2000hrs on them with no problems. We changed a 250XS Merc to a 250 E tech on a 22 Velocity CC and picked up 6 mph and better fuel economy. The boat with the XS was no slouch as it ran 63 mph. So our Evinrude experience has been good so far. Until they perfect the four stroke and lighten it up, I'll stick with my 2 stroke outboards.
