New Doug Wright 35 Light speed Completed...

Doug is just wrapping up the new enhanced 35' high performance catamaran with an extended drive bustle. This boat has the raised engine hatch to allow for the 1500hp twin turbo powerplants. this model will have the twin front buckets and a 3 person rear bench. It has the open cockpit option. We all are expecting big things from this proven winning hull but in a sterndrive . If anyone wants a stylish high tech state of the art proven catamaran that will be very fast and safe even on warrantied insurable mercury power this is your boat. only 6 will be available this year. Going down to the plant in 2 weeks, will get pics and let everyone know about the test runs, Wiggler

I'm also wondering about the "will be very fast and safe" in Wiggler's statement. What specifically will keep you safe in this open cockpit boat in the event of a high speed rollover or stuff?

it doesn't have quarter canopies, but more of a wrap around windshield... and i rather not have my head hit anything at a high rate of speed.. :drink:

Why such larger power on the first boat? Let's see what it does with 525's

Nice lines, just like an MTI....

I agree, let's see some numbers with Merc 525's, 600's or new 700's.

the first stern drive model had 700's and sixes, but not the same cockpit configuration, kind of a canopy with a big sunroof... :D

Re: New Doug Wright 35 Light speed Completed...

this boat was sold to a customer who already had the motors, no question it will be stupid fast, probably capable of well over 180 if someone had the balls , the boat is also available in full canopy with hatches, but my goal and Doug's is to do exactly as you guys are saying keep the power down even to 496 ho's possibly to keep it insurable with mild reliable power, that is more affordable, but still looks cool, performs well, our first will have mild power in it.

Boat looks beautiful. If it handles anything like the 32 it will be a winner for sure. With 1500's (power/weight) the acceleration should be supurb... Is the new owner in CA? Bling? Is Grant rigging?

Love to see it come to LOTO.

Cograts Doug!!

Are the running surface dimensions the same on the 35' as the 32'?

Buddy OO 10-29-2006 08:23 AM

Re: New Doug Wright 35 Light speed Completed...

same running surface as 32, just set up with bustle with sterndrives, Bling has the boat shown, not sure if Grant is rigging. The first sterndrive had some funky motors in it . I believe after talking to Doug they were more like 650's, boat ran close to 150 after it was dialed in. Grant said it was very fast and felt like it was on rails, handled well, We will have one at LOTO soon.

Try more like low 130s.

I just checked an earlier post, you are right 137mph was there first attempt with that power. they thought it would get to 150 when it was finally dialed in. We still believe mid 130's is attainable with merc 525's.

Fair #'s Grant will find whatever is there. Mojo's a testament to that.

Someone mentioned 180mph.. Bling make sure you consult John T, Jim Dyke or John Cosker if you are going for these speeds. No room for error here.

Good luck with the new boat!! See you at LOTO!!

I'll take one.... but it'll have to be 1100's since I already have one. I have BALLS :evilb:

3600 yours is already in the mold with the a/c full canopy, twin hatches, tunnel tab, naca ducts, and full carbon 1800lb layup, no one will touch you at loto with those 1100's, we all know they will be juiced up more .

Dave , please reread the hp post, the 635hp did'nt come from me. everything I quoted was passed along to me by multiple people involved in the boats, have heard nothing but great things about Grant, so relax just expressing myself on Dougs racing success and now a pleasure version I feel highly of and look forward to selling.

I too love this site.....

You sometimes have to read through some BS, but more times than not, we'll end up with the truth somehow.

Thanks skaterdave for the heads-up about "Grant's Custom Rigging". Truly usefull information to many.

Good luck with dialing in your new boat and as always, "Everyone, please be safe".

Listen up stud, you stick to holding on to a steering wheel, and let us throttle guys do the real work. And just so you can sleep at night Sally, if I end up finishing this project, JT is already involved.

Plus.... I remember a year or so ago at a certain poker run you were driving the baddest 46 turbine Skater on the planet, and you were having a hell of a time just keeping up with a certain 36 Nor-tech I was throttling. Then to top it off, you show up at the poker run party with pink socks on. There's better ways of getting attention then to show up in pink socks. HA HA Marc. If your on the other side of FL next weekend, I'm stopping by Dougs shop.

Re: New Doug Wright 35 Light speed Completed...

Wiggler you need to calm down. If you represent Doug Wright who is trying to get his product out to market. He may need some time to make changes in the bottom to get the boat to run. How fast did the outboard 32 Doug Wright run at Loto? 100-102? .

Your promoting someone else's boat who has 750's and ran 133 best. The guy probably does not have the boat dialed in. This is a new boat and it will take time.

"I was'nt aware Kilokat moved to another lake." Too funny!!!

Buddy OO 10-29-2006 06:18 PM

Re: New Doug Wright 35 Light speed Completed...

not aware of a 32 being on loto for one, his race boats run in excess of 120, fact. why would he change his bottom it works very well now. and 133 or 137 with 700's 650;s 635;s is still very fast, go get em 3600cat.I just took a tranqilizer so I'm calm now

368 and 38 Skaters HP 525's 120's. Go read the Loto numbers. I think that was a race boat. Good Luck.

Re: New Doug Wright 35 Light speed Completed...

I know for a fact that Dennis is still dialing his boat in and has more to get out of it then what he showed at Loto. This hull with 2.5's on the back can run in the teens with the right set up. It has been done already.

Buddy OO 10-29-2006 07:14 PM

Re: New Doug Wright 35 Light speed Completed...

A 39 MTI scl ran 137mph with 525's what is your point. I understand you like skaters, All 3 are great boats.huge difference is price.

Tantrum 10-29-2006 07:16 PM

Re: New Doug Wright 35 Light speed Completed...

Loto is not a fair judge for the top end of an outboard cat. Outboards take a while to get to max speed because you dont have the torque a big block has. The DW's I know are running high teens with 2.5's.

Hey Greg how ya doin? No "Sally" here just a buddy that's pushing those speeds now and finding out it's more than HP and balls.

Congrats on the new boat. You definatly got the right man on the job. I'll be in South Florida late this week testing the Platinum and MTI for the Destin races. Give me a call when you get in and come check out the boats.
