38 fastec vs. 38TG
Which one would you guys choose? The TG is a twin Step. :drink:

Re: 38 fastec vs. 38TG
Tg
|
Re: 38 fastec vs. 38TG
I have been out in both and there is no comparison. You can see which one I bought. I also owned the 31 Fastech prior to this purchase.
The Fastech also topped out in the mid 70's and the TG is mid 80's. |
Re: 38 fastec vs. 38TG
NADA says that an 2002 top gun is $188,000
2002 fastec is 134k big difference but the TG would have a better qualtiy right? |
Re: 38 fastec vs. 38TG
I have been in both, trust me you want the Top Gun

Re: 38 fastec vs. 38TG
What year did cig start putting steps in the TG?
Formula was 1997 I belive. |
Re: 38 fastec vs. 38TG
No one ever came up to me and asked "Is that a Formula boat?"
Cig- quality, holds its value, better performance, hotter looks. Formula is more of a wife & kids offshore. |
Re: 38 fastec vs. 38TG
I love both boats. Pros and cons, as you get with any comparison :D
Cig for performance, helm/cockpit layout, wave crushing capability, legendary reputation (tried tested and true) Formula for sexy lines, interior layout/liveability, luxury options, "new wave" technology IMO, either one would make you happy! |
Re: 38 fastec vs. 38TG
Both are great boats. I was a salesman at a dealership that sold both. Both were Factory 2 national champions. Very different ride in big water. Both great but different. The formula has a lot more "wife" features like a pump out head, adjustable footrests, glove box with a mirror inside. The Cigarette is more of the pureist offshore boat. I would take the Cig but my wife likes the Formula...thats why I own a Cigarette.
I have never seen any problems with the quality of either, if you hear about more quality issues with formula it's probably because they build a whole lot more boats than Cig. |
Re: 38 fastec vs. 38TG
Cig experimented with a single step in '99/'00 and put the twin step in full time in 2001.
I don't know how many single steps were built but it was probably only a couple race boats |
Re: 38 fastec vs. 38TG
Never ridden in the Cig but ridden in MANY 382's and liked them all. Just looking for a comparison.
|
Re: 38 fastec vs. 38TG
The Cigarette without a doubt.

Re: 38 fastec vs. 38TG
TopGun

Re: 38 fastec vs. 38TG
i would say cig just on looks and name
|
Re: 38 fastec vs. 38TG
This sounds like it would be an arguement between me and my wife if we were shopping that range of boat.
For me - Cig, hands down. Offshore legend - need I say more. For her - Formula. Very high quality, attention to creature comfort, performance boat. Both are great boats, and I don't think you'd go wrong with either. It just depends on what you want to do with your boat. And let's face it, anyone buying a go-fast wants to get a little attention from everyone. What kind of attention do you want, and from who? Race/Poker Run crowd, or Luxury crowd?? IMO, Cig is built to Run big water, and then they make it look and feel nice. Formula is built to look and feel nice, and then engineered to also run hard. Can't lose - Just depends what you want. |
Re: 38 fastec vs. 38TG
theres an awful lot of variables here...i just bought a 353 fastec, and looked at a 30 Mystique. are you powering them comprably, age etc...$$$ is what pushed me into the Fastec. a 1999 353 vs a 2000 30 Mystique...if money were not an issue i'm all about a 39 Unlimited with 850's and 6's :evilb:

Right about now, the dashboard on a two-tone green metallic Glastron Tri-hull 19' with a clamp on 125 would be fairly exciting for me... |

I don't know how many single steps were built but it was probably only a couple race boats I was one of their experiments in 2000, I believe a total of 6 boats were sold that year. :( |

Re: 38 fastec vs. 38TG
As far back as I can remember, I've said that someday I'll own a Cigarette. For that reason alone I'd by the Gun - just to cross one more thing off my list. :D

A Fastec is a choppergun boat I agree with the above posts (Cosmic12) that the Formula dash needs work. Even some past boat tests have said its too simple. Maybe they rely too much on SmartCraft, being that the majority of their installations are Mercury, to give important readouts, but I like having gauges out there to glance at without pushing little buttons at speed But I see the point about having a limit with the gauges, being that the wraparound windshield is still standard ( which looks nice when its in chrome though!) |

I guess all the pics available of hulls being hand-laid and rolled in Decatur were staged? |
Re: 38 fastec vs. 38TG
What do you need (OK, want) out of the boat?
I love the lines of the Cig and agree it's a better rough water boat. The lines are classic and the one off paint is awesome. We overnight often in our boat.....sometimes with 3 kids. Making several hundred mile trips over several days is what we "need" the boat for so Formula won hands down. Still a good quality boat, good resale, and the ride quality is close enough. They are just built for 2 different purposes. |

How does a 38scarab avs stand up to these boats?
