I've also been waiting for 2 items to complete a $1300 order. My order was also placed 40+ days ago also. I've called Trick no less than 10 times regarding the order. Very frustrating........if I ran my business that way there's no way I could afford a boat for a toy.....or anything else for that matter! One of the guages that I did receive has a nick in the outer rim which under normal circumstances I would send back but I'm afraid I won't see a new one till who knows when! So much for getting my dash redone before Memorial weekend!

tomcei 05-16-2007 06:38 PM

I don't think Fred wants it to be this way. He seems to be a good guy. I know first hand how a small business can tail spin. Especially if the employees stink.I'm sure he will make it right. Unfortunatelly that doesn't take the sting out of my boat building plans either
I also have been waiting. :(

In Fred's defence, I can say that he will make good your orders. I have made several purchases with him. Only once, there was an issue. Yes, it took some time to get it resolved, but I feel that there was a communication breakdown within his staff. After I talked directly to Fred, the issue was taken care of in a speedy, professional manner. my .02 worth :D

Marginmn 05-16-2007 07:17 PM

My experiences ordering from Fred have always been first rate. His is a distributor so maybe his supplier for that particular item is dropping the ball. If that's the case there is only so much he can do.

BARCOASTAL 05-16-2007 07:33 PM

I second that ...fred is solid, very good, your situation sucks, but Fred will defiantely come thru... good luck!

No doubt Fred is knowledgeable and very personable. He seems more interested in selling you what you really need than just making a sale - and I greatly appreciate that. Still that's no excuse for 5-6 phone calls leaving messages before a return call..........I'm patient and easy to get along with....as a consumer I just want to know where I stand. I too run my own business so I've been trying to give him the benefit of doubt that my customers don't always give me (even though I rarely leave myself open to that susceptability).

I am sorry that you having problem but my experinence was completely different. I called Fred this morning for the very first time and he was on the phone but returned my phone call within 15 mins later. He was very helpful and answered all my questions. I will definitely buy more from him.

bowtie 05-16-2007 09:21 PM

Guys it's spring, the marine business is very busy now. Sometimes you get so busy you can't answer the phone and although you have good intentions of returning calls, when you get time it's usually 11 or 12 pm. There's no one on this board I'd rather do business with.

So orders placed in Nov, messed up with 3 shipments that had to be returned, and then gave up for another vendor in March is the busy season too?
I really like talking to Fred......I just can't count on them to do what they say.

EXACTLY!! I don't care if Fred is a distributor or what the case may be.....if he took the order.....take care of the customer.....if it's busy season, hire additional help to process orders.........I promise, I'm done hammering on Fred for all you fans......oh, one more thing, my voicemail seems to work just fine at 11:00 or 12:00

Mange

Tom A. 05-17-2007 06:30 AM

Let's see..............in the last five months Fred has lost a son in a car accident, sold his building in Cheraw, and relocated his home and business to Myrtle Beach.

Maybe he has dropped the ball once or twice during that time period. Personally, I can't imagine going through all that he has had to endure this year.

Had that in my mind too. Thats actually bigger things than a few missing boat parts...

But we still need our parts....

I agree totally! Most people would have quit the business after going through what he has in the past year.My experience with Fred has been nothing but the best.:drink:

jtmiller02 05-17-2007 05:38 PM

I live about 5 miles from his new shop and if i'm not out on the water working all day tomorrow I'll stop by and check on him. I don't have much spare time working as a captain full time but if theres something i can do to give him a hand i'll be happy to help.

Also keep in mind this week is harley davidson week in myrtle beach and it is very very difficult to get things done with the crowds. He is very close to the worst of the traffic and getting UPS and FedEx on time can even be tough this week.

Patience everyone......

We all have to realize that Fred left a perfectly sane career in fast food to move into the insane world of Hi perf boating.
I'm sure with his busy schedule of psychiatric care and his advancing age, Fred is doing the best he can........

There you go Fred, I hope that helped:D :D :D

All that I know about Fred and Trick Marine is from the OSO forums for almost 4 years. I have never ordered from or spoke to them. The feedback from these forums have always been positive and almost every time the consumer has reported positive about their transactions with Fred and his company. It seems to me that Fred and Trick Marine has batted 99.999% since its inception. If I have the opportunity to do business with Fred and Trick Marine I will do so with no reservations.

Sorry to hear about any problems people may have but Trick Marine's record = EXCELLENT and speaks for itself.

I started using Eddie Marine after lack of response from Trick, Eddie Marine's website much easier to find items & requires no phone calls. My .02

yesrej 05-18-2007 10:21 AM

i have ordered a few things from fred at trick. i did have a little bit of a problem getting one part and when i called i talked to james and he promised me i would have it that day. not even a minute later i got it. i had to call hi back cause i felt like an ass. i am now waiting for a new set of cup holders i ordered last week but i know they will be here soon. i keep going back to trick because i have met fred and james and they are great people and really you cant beat there prices. i have gotten great deals and will continue to go with fred.

jtmiller02 05-18-2007 03:10 PM

I stopped by today and Fred wasn't in but James and the girls were hard at work packing and shipping orders. Other than the fact every manufacturer is typically backed up with orders this time of year from procrastinators everything is business as usual. I'd suggest a friendly phone call to the girls if I were you.

NASCAT 05-18-2007 03:43 PM

I'm a repeat customer having done business w/ Fred, James & or Heath w/ no problems to date including processing returns & credits.

Audiofn 05-18-2007 04:17 PM

This seems to come up about onece a month or other month or so.

It always amazes me when some one gets on the site and says WOW Fred is the best he just sent me a .... (insert very small order) and I got it right away..... :D

I however have to imagine that he also ships a very large number of multiple piece orders and have to also imagine that they ship a good number of orders each day. I know of a few issues that they have had but heck if he ships 50 orders a day and we are only hearing about a few once in a while......

As some one that is finding it impossible to get a contractor that I gave a lot of money to return my phone calls I know just how far a returned phone call would go.

Pure Energy 05-18-2007 05:13 PM

I have placed numerous orders and no complaints. What I'm concerned about is Fred will always respond to any OSO thread or post related to him or his business.

He has always given me 100% of himself, so I hope all is well with him.

I think everyone got spoiled. He was too accessible early on, and then everyone expected to get straight to him, and bullchit for an hour. As his business grew, he needed to delegate some of the communication responsibilities to his employees and some clients seemed to feel slighted.

cuda 05-18-2007 08:45 PM

I've had nothing but great service from Fred.

RollWithIt 05-19-2007 04:18 AM

Maybe he's been out boating!? :p :D

I got an order in with them too. But its a small one and not keeping me from boating. So no biggie. Im sure they will get to it when they can. I know how the seasonal thing goes being in the boat biz myself.

I think Phantom1 hit the nail on the head. All of us tend to treat Fred like our own personal parts man because he is no BS guy, unlike many in the marine business. I have been working on my Dad's street rods for years and getting aftermarket parts for them can be much slower than Trick, and these companies are usually much larger than Trick Marine. Fred is one of the best is the business IMO. Doller and BAM are great also.

yesrej 05-19-2007 09:15 AM

to me i would think this has to be the biggest time of year for him. i know i will get my order and am not worried. its not a big order and is not keeping me from boating so it doesnt bother me if it takes a little longer.
