I'm pretty sure Boomer is correct on the drives being Alphas. I owned an 87 and it had Alphas - 88 were Bravos. Unless they did a conversion or late late 87 model??
Overall my opinion ... I loved the boat! Not sure on the actual materials used for construction or balsa cored or not, With 454s in mine saw no chine walk, didn't go fast enuf for that LOL around 60 - 62mph. And no porpoise at all. I ran her in NJ saltwater ocean ... and then on Barnegat Bay constant 2-3s all day. Ran straight and strong in this water ... heavy friggen boat. Serviceability (sp??) is def a concern as it is TIGHT in there. Mine motors were crammed in there with Stainless Marine exhaust and looked good ... sounded even better.
Oh yeah and loved the '87 model for the side exiting exhaust on the outer heads. Very
