Ok, so maybe this is a dumb question, but... from an insurance standpoint, is this boat looked at like a cat, or no? Seems like a nice idea for a family boat that allows you to go out and rip it up now and then if you want, but how are they to insure? (I am referring to the higher-end models, Eliminator, E-Ticket, Howard, etc...). I would imagine if you stuck a huge blower motor in it, it would - but what about a 496HO or a 525?
And, are there any that can handle some moderate chop or are they strictly smooth lake / river rides?

ok depending on your boating the insurance is not that bad I have seen really low insurance rates on them best thing is PM drejustice he has a 496ho in his 26 ultra the only time that I have seen a tad high insurance is when we go real extreme on the motor but even then the rate was still real low.
As for ride they handle it amazing and that isnt a sales pitch moderate chop is not a problem at all we ran a 26 during a huge run at havasu and didnt have a problem all weekend.

If your curious as to how it 26 Ultra Deck handles chop then check out the video of our test ride(note:shot via the video feature of a small hand held still camera so it's a bit crappy). The lake we boat on really doesn't get conditions this rough(2-4ft rolling waves) but after the ride in these conditions, I was sold since i was confident it could handle anything I threw at it.
It's also a practical boat that Ultra outfitted to handle our 2 large labs with a place for them to get out of the sun and a dog ramp.

Huh - cool, sounds like deck boats are almost the best of both worlds - performance and room for people.
Jason - I'll give you call at some point today or Monday to discuss a bit further.
Thanks,
Mark

I have had my eye on a performance deck boat as well.
I want performance but we usually have 8 people out with us on the boat.
What about, Advantage, Eliminator, Cheetah?
I am looking in the 27 - 28' range for around 50k.
thanks,
fin
