To get to the marina you just get on Joline Ave and take it out to Ocean Ave., the marina is a couple miles north on Ocean Ave.

I have a BBQ to go to at 4 pm Saturday though.

The car show is Sunday. Gates for monmouth park open around 11:30 i think? judging is typically 3:15 or so. It's a great time. I know that bar. Are you talking about the waterside cafe, right in the marina, or the Cove, a little more north? Not sure if I'll be in the area on Saturday or not, but shoot me an email with your #, and i'll give you a call if in end up in that neck of the woods.

If anyone ends up at the car show, look me up. I'll probably have some kind of boat T shirt on..... Always some high quality metal at the show.....

Who needs Fear Factor when all you have to do is drive in Jersey and visit places like Newark, East Orange, Trenton, or Camden.

The car show's on Sunday. See my other post. If you're in the area, stop by and say Hey. I actually, helped out with the Shore Dreams for kids a few years back. I was doing morning radio at the time, and we did a lot of promotion for the event. I even did a live broadcast from the event. It's a really great cause. I'm sure it'll be another great time.

Yup! Waterfront Cafe was the old name, it has a new owner and it's called Ross' Dockside now. They renovated the inside and put a brick oven at the outside bar. I'm in the marina in the row of lifts on D Dock (E Dock has nothing on us! ). I'll shoot you a PM with my contact info.

Then you have "Piney Mobiles".... You know, the old beat up Dodge Dart with rusted quarter panels that are primed grey with 3 other color quarter panels they got from the junk yard. Don't forget all the crane, msd, K&N stickers in the rear quarter windows!! :D

Or the old Bronco with the rear cap removed and rusted roll bar with "hockey puck" lift kit and 33" tires that rub when you turn the wheel to much.... Poor fella paid 300 for the truck, $2 for the hockey pucks and $1500 for the "used" tires and rims! :evilb:

It's a little known fact that the tooth brush was actually invented by a Piney. I am certain of this because if it was invented by anyone else it would have been call a "teeth brush". :D

I could probably go on forever about south Jersey (but don'ty worry, I will come back to it) but has any one been to Sayreville latey. You do know it's still 1985 there. You can see someone in a Poison concert T, White leather fringe jacket, bangs a mile high, studded belts and acid wash jeans.

Back in the 80s most proms looked like this in Jersey. But I wonder if the sayreville proms still look like this?

Oh believe me I know. He's actually in Middletown now (Red Bank mailing), off of Navesink-River Road. UUUUUUUUuummmmm, I live in Red Bank and I boat alot on the Navesink River. I think  I know exactly where he lives :p Plus bumpped in the David Bryan many times in Red Bank with his kids (BonBloMes Keyboardist). And Richie & Heather said their vows in Red Bank as well (at least one of the ceremonies were.) His house that he raffled off on MTV years ago, got sold as quickly as they won it. Then his parent got a house in Holmdel. I used to hang with his bro at the Birch Hill, who opened a placed called "Elements" in Sea Bright........ Should I go on?

But anyway...... I rest my case, hence probably why Sayreville is still stuck in the 80s. Hell, Jon is still stuck in the 80s.

From Wikpedia:
Locals say that the term stands for the names of the cities that these seasonal visitors hail from: Bayonne, Elizabeth, Newark, and New York, although this may be a backronym.

A further theory to the origin of this word comes from an earlier time. In the late 1800’s and early 1900’s many of the resort areas around New York City were restricted. Jews (as well as other ethnic groups) were not allowed in these resort areas. Many Jewish families would vacation at the Jersey Shore. The town of Lakewood became a popular resort destination. The local population referred to these visitors as “Bennies” from the very common Jewish name of Benjamin. In later years the term has been used to describe anyone that visits the Jersey Shore.

Lucididee 07-19-2007 08:19 AM

Ok ........ let's read the entire Wikipedia thing:

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Benny is a derogatory term used by residents of Jersey Shore towns for tourists that visit each summer.

In England, the term is used as a pejorative slang term to describe anyone of apparent mental slowness, especially by children (derived from the character of the same name, played by Paul Henry in the soap opera Crossroads). In parts of England it is also used to describe a person in a fit of rage or having a tantrum as in "He's having a benny".

Usually only North Jersey shore residents will use the term, "Benny", as South Jersey shore people tend to refer to visitors as, "Shoe Bees" because day-trippers would bring their lunches to the beach in shoeboxes.

So the truth is "No one knows for sure". So believe what ya wanna believe. But I will tell you this (and this coming from a Brooklynite turned local), From Sandy Hook to Seaside Heights WE consider anyone from N Jersey & NY that is Italiain visiting the Jersey Shore a BENNY. The conversation usually starts with "YO! Tony!" or "YO! Vinnie!" or "YO! Joey!" or "YO! Antony!" (No self respecting NY Italian would dare say Anthony.)

I cannot comment on the south Jersey Shore, as I don't go there that much, and that part of the shore is mostly has the Philly people visiting.

I don't hide the fact that I am a Benny (just not Italian, but I can act it if I have to) :p and an 80s Poser.

I do have to sympathize with the Floridians, they do get the Snowbirds in the Winter. Finally the "Deal" people get the hell outta here.

Not entirely true. I live in Manahawkin, and spend a lot of time on the island. Over the last few years I've seen just as many NY plates as PA plates here.

I don't usually got past Point on land, nor past Barnegat Inlet on water. That why I can't comment much on the South Jersey Shore.

What do you consider Manahawkin, North or South Jersey Shore? You're like the very beginning of what I consider the heart of the south Jersey Shore. You're closer to AC expressway, thus Philly, as I'm closer to NYC. Up here is all NJ/NY plates. But, for the most part, AC and south is either PA or Canadians. I lived in North Wildwood for 1 year. I had to get the hell outta there. It was horrible. I had to get back north. I moved to Atlantic Highlands and worked in Bayonne.

But this question definately seperates the North from the South. Are you and Eagles fan or a Giants/Jets fan? And if you're not a fan of those teams, which would you rather see loose than? I'm a Raiders fan, but I HATE the Eagles. I'm definately North Jersey Shore.
