I was 5 and you were 15 when all this was happening....neither of us worked there or owned the company.... I'm sure we both have friends/relatives who were there and similiar to the old Indian campfire stories about Geronimo etc. the stories have their place... :hitfan: It's just not worth arguing anymore....:Whatever: instead lets wonder/search where that Squadron/Apache is... |
Panther ,Thank you for the great videos !!!!! They tell the story enough said.:ernaehrung004:

Very interesting and cool. I do wonder why Mr. McManus never completed his website or even updates it...I wonder if he would be as big or popular as Outerlimits if he tried to market the Apache business...

As was said before, McManus is doing refits and repairs. Folks who own Apaches know where to find him. More website would only bring more inquiries on new boats- 95% from tire-kickers. |
Interesting...he fought hard and spent big $$$$ to keep the name, so why not make $$$ with the name? You make sense, but his actions do not....weird?

I can see here were the 33 got its wide strakes from.
So which one is a spinoff a 33 Flatdeck Cig and which one is a spin off from a 35 Mistress ? Not to sound skeptical or judging anyone but If I was building boats especially in the early days I surely would try to rent/loan a mold ( at least while getting started or building one-offs )and do a few hulls. I´m positive Don A did rent his molds too if they weren´t used much. I´m just trying to trace the history here that´s all, maybe even help future restorers/boatbuilders. |

Although it doesn't predate the Squadron, the "Legend of Apache" video by Big Seas Productions also documents the history quite well! All the footage is original. |

A few years back I was told the 33 Apache was a damed up version of Don's winningest boat his 39 Squadron with some freeboad added also. This was the narrow beam not shure of were the wide beam version came from.
Don't know about that but the 39 Squadron certainly wouldn't be Don's winningest design- so few were made and even fewer were race boats. My guess would be the 35. |

Yes it is. Built by the best....Mark McManus. And no matter how many AssClowns try to discredit him with their crybaby nonsense, his credentials are unimpeachable.
Mark McManus......Master Boatbuilder I believe "Spirit of Apache" is for sale in the Dupont Registry No discredit to him for what he's done... He managed operations then later built the boats and they were great....he carried the torch after the founding fathers built it.... Here's how I see it.. 1. Don Aronow - Hull Designer 2. Ben Kramer - CEO(Venture Capitalist) 3. Bob Saccenti - Original President/Founder 4. Mark McManus - Head of Operations later turned President(government seizure while Benny's trial was going on, then some years later owner) Benny and Bob were traveling all over the world making name the for Apache and put them on the map by kicking azz! Mark first worked part-time for Benny/Bob then later worked full time when Benny made the offer because Bob left to go out on his own and build the less than 40 ft boats and Benny/Bob were still racing together. Mark worked for Don and was part of the Halter/Cigarette aquisition... This is my understanding...with some details left out to shorten the story. Feel free to fill in the blans if you please.. BOTTOM LINE, THEY ARE ALL TALENTED INDIVIDUALS! :ernaehrung004: Which brings me to my next point.....this is all the more reason Apache's are still worth a lot to some people nowadays......BTW, isn't that why this thread was started....back on topic.. |
Didn't McManus build the Tsunami Apache which was a new boat not to long ago, as well the spirt of Apache boat was basically a boat build?? Correct me if im wrong.

Eric. Anyway, Eric, what happened? Did somebody who looks like Mark McManus steal your girlfriend? Did somebody in an Apache offend you at the dock one day? I can't imagine why you even care if there are 50 new boats or none. What difference does it make? If we "old farts" want to believe something, what of it? |

I read stuff like this and I wonder why we do not have an IQ standard that must be met before somebody like this can post. Just for the record, "He ain't a boat builder no more" is not only murdering the English language, but it's a double negative which technically means: "He is a boat builder"!

Also the Wider 33 might be a older style widebody Cig 36 which also has the same beam as the Scarabs...and the look... Offtopic: The highest hull number I´ve seen on a Squadron XII 39 is a 1981 model and no 8 of that year, a heavy mother that is bytheway...the bare hull weighs over 6500lbs ...compare that to a race 38 CUV at 5800 complete With Lambos and Sixes...and a Apache41 at 8600... |

Wow thats a lot..the 41 weight I took from El Indios quote once (?).
Not an Epoxy boat is it? How much without the interior? |

When I want to bicker back & forth with teenagers, all I have to do is walk down the hall to their bedrooms. Much easier than typing!

I was told all the weight lost with the carbon fiber lay up was added back in the structure of the boat thusly ended up weighing what a standard pleasure version would weigh. I think it will hold 300 gals of gas too. Interior only consists of two 6' settees and a 8' v birth. Two hanging lockers that are going to be removed have something different planned. There is loss of head room and foot room due to the 4 full stringers in the deck and the 5 full ones in the hull. Then theres the full bulk headss about every 18".
