Ok now that this has become an educational thread can someone tell me what James Caan played in all this? I read once he was a backup driver but don't know if it was a joke? There is also a video(Apache offshore challange) with him in it talking about the boats.

33 Warpath.
I looked at it a couple of years ago. Boat was in Oxford,GA and the owner talked of converting it to a parasail boat. It was rough, repainted, twisted, and sitting on the ground. http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...apache+warpath |

I'd love to know more about the 33's. Antbody know how many were built?
I started a thread on 33s. As how many a thread about 4 or so years ago or mabe talking to Bobby (possibly a bit of both) 5 sport decks were made only one at Race Headquarters the only one with race boat construction. Could be wrong about the number ahh myths |

Driver.....Ben Kramer T Man Bob Saccenti Navigator Bob Idoni Rigged by Bobby Moore? ........Mark McManus? That's my best guess at what it says....Maybe someone can provide a clearer picture. |
So then all the 33's constructed predate the 41 and Ben's involvement?

One of those is for sale. :D I just dropped the price today to 149K to see if we can move it before Key West. If not, it looks like it will be staying down there at Guardado after Key West to have a cabin built. I got an e-mail back from Eddie today and he said that they can take it in and get started immediately. http://www.offshoreonlyclassifieds.c...o14820-en.html |

that boat had my name all over it back in, i think 2002, the wife and i looked at it during the Miami boat show week,it was located just north of Ft Lauderdale up in the horse country. I was just about ready to pull the trigger when we had a house fire and put an end to it. My plans were to retrofit it back to the race paint scheme and colors and possible change to a staggered motor set up. i must have watched those apache cd's a hundred times with that boat racing. i'd tell the wife thats it, thats our next boat, i have always loved that boat. I have read all of your post and have enjoyed the pictures that you post of it. If you decide to keep it and do your cabin you will just be taking it to the next level. im curious in the cabin plans if it includes a more accessible entry. im also curious as to what that boat weighs.

True story: Last summer we did a poker run on the bay, about 90 boats of all sizes and shapes, great fun.As the day went on the water got 4-5 ft in some places. At the end of the day people in other boats of equal size and bigger stated how rough it had gotten. My wife looked at me and did not understand what they were talking about. In calmer water they were faster but not at the end of the day???? Bottom line (for me), the 41 Apache rode much nicer than the 42' OL, albeit slower but at equal speeds there's a noticable difference in ride comfort (80s tech vs. 00's tech). My 36' runs nicer than the 37' OL, they pound at slower speeds, gotta keep it over 65-70 to smooth it out.... "For me" (not everyone else), I paid for the "ride quality", not the fastest boat. Lucy, thanks for the pics!!!! We'll do it all again next summer! |

Another apache thread right down the $hitter! Funny stuff you guys...very impressive... For what it's worth I believe the relationship between James Caan and Apache was through Bobby S. ... Benny was tight with Sammy Davis Jr. :D And, no disrespect intended, but were Cigarette's built by Craig Barry better than those built by Skip Braver...I mean after all, Craig raced them, didn't he ? Just trying to follow some of the misguided logic ???? Alot of ground covered, but no talk of the New-Tech Apache's with the steps ? Pretty big to just sweep under the rug ... I've said this before- "the sum of MANY parts" To downplay any of the three principal players in this decades old soap opera is just not nice. All three crawled around in Bilges and contributed. Magnum Mark knows...He was there! Give credit where credit is due...Any of you guys capable of building boats while the Feds are busy crawling up your a$$ with a microscope ??? And an honorable mention goes to : "The Dog" Timmy "bones" Moran(tell him he "stole" his rigging secrets from Bobby Moore):D Bobby Shanblatt Gail Paik Tom Evans and the countless other craftsmen that turned peoples pipe dreams into reality. Oh, and before it comes up, I don't own an Apache because I cannot afford one...but if I could I would. |

later Dave Hughes As for the weight of the boat right now, we figure that it's between 13K and 14K pounds. |

There will be a regular door instead of the zippered vinyl flap and the dash area above the door will be hinged so it will open up. That is the initial thought anyway. Stepping down into the cabin there will be an enclosed head to the right (under the dash) with a covergirl style 1/2 cabin consisting of two simple, facing sofas. No birth in the bow, just the sofas. If this goes as planned we will also install a generator and AC.

I would think twice about cutting the doorway hatch into the dash ... there is a lot of the structural support in that area of the deck believe it or not ... anything you take out of there will weaken the deck .... even deck hatches take away from your deck's strength and stiffnes . Maybe check with MM or BS depending on who the experts say really built your boat? :D |

Hi Jerry !
I was hoping you would jump in...DeJa Vu for sure !:D Bring "Clifford" down for the fun run in December .. Look foward to seeing you and talking some $hit! It's clearly what I do best :D See you soon, Hans |
Personaly I would like to thank all those involved with the construction and riging of my Apache that worked at Race Headquartes back in 83 and any others involved.

What about the rumors that a guy named Jerry, who built the squadron named Apache, is the guy who thought up the name and was first to use it?

Cigarette: Things changed when Don died but they've also kept the name alive and have built a heck of a lot of boats since then and the technology has evolved over the years. Kodos to them for a job well done. New Tech - The same goes with McManus, Chief still has the molds for the 42', one can be built if a customer desires.. One is for sale, with all the menusia aside, from the video's I've seen it runs pretty well. :cool-smiley-026: Bottom line....people are passionate about Apache no matter what side of the fence you sit on.....thus we may actually pay more money for something we are passionate about... Why are they percieved expensive? They just are....deal with it...:p Next beer is on me!:ernaehrung004: |

http://www.offshoreonlyclassifieds.c...o14820-en.html Keep the boat as it is and buy the kids a skiboat with a bigblock... thisway everyones happy. If you get a cabin boat youŽll soon find out that the cabin doesnŽt get much use. If boats up here doesnŽt get their cabins used much but the flybridges and aft decks instead then howabout some warmer places?? |

So I guess a 33 with 482Žs (and Kinsler fuel injection?) will outrun one ;) |

As it happens that pic chris put out has also been my screensaver... I was 5 and you were 15 when all this was happening....neither of us worked there or owned the company.... I'm sure we both have friends/relatives who were there and similiar to the old Indian campfire stories about Geronimo etc. the stories have their place... :hitfan: It's just not worth arguing anymore....:Whatever: |

Shouldn't you have directed that criticism to Bobby Moore?
BTW, as stated in the video it was build/rigged by Mark... I simply asked a question....for all we know the driver had it overtrimmed or wanted a high X-Dim so the boat went faster.... There are trade-off's with high, low X-Dim's...you guys are the experts so you already knew that...:hitfan: Angle of attack: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7mSxOAg-UU the team boat had electrical problems and lost trim. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_6vdTEChas |
