$2.81 /gal for regular

Dean Ferry 11-09-2007 11:06 AM

2.99 for reg, 3.25 for diesel on Merrit Island FL. We have a HESS gas card that's 10% for 1st 90 days, the 5% off thereafter. It saves us a about $30-40 a month. Our fuel bill a month is about $4-500.:(

Manufacturing cost (refining cost in this case) is not the sole determiner of price. In free markets, it is determined by supply and demand. Diesel is distilled from crude oil, and you can only get so much diesel from a barrel of crude. The rest has to go into other petroleum products, such as gasoline, solvents, tar, etc. Worldwide demand for diesel has risen relative to gasoline, especially in Europe, which has caused prices to rise relative to gasoline. Europe now exports gasoline they can't use to the U.S. There is research being done to develop synthetic diesel, so more diesel could be produced from a barrel of crude.

I agree totally- I only need to drive a gasser once and have it downshift going up the same hills my diesel never downshifts on, and I'm right back into a diesel. There's no substiture for the torque made by a diesel engine!
