Buddy for someone putting together a diesel package you must not have been at this long because this is the first thread you have properly spelled diesel. For example
http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...d.php?t=172076

http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...d.php?t=171490

http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...d.php?t=171406

another http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...d.php?t=125497

So lets not pretend to be developing some diesel engine package when just last week you learned to spell diesel.

Remember i before e except after c!

Am I thinking right here? Current hull let's say runs 97 with 1.48: 1 drives with 32P wheels at 5000, engine output torque 850#' at 5000, and 15% slip. If I went to diesel and wanted to run 97, say at gov rpm of 2800/850 torque available, looks like I would need a .85:1 overdrive, with perhaps a 33 pitch wheel? Can I assume hull needs net 850 #' to run 97? Now what happens with the torque avail at prop when you go from a 1.48 to a .85 ratio? Is the 1.48 torque really like 1258 going into the drive and the overdrive 723?

Actually, the torque varies throughout the gear train. The input into the drive (provided there is no transmission) is your engine torque. Then it goes into the upper gear set for the first part of the reduction, so it will be higher than engine torque going down to the lower gear set. Then the lower gear set has further reduction, so the torque is again multiplied before going to the prop.

Old news here..do a search... I believe was the one who posted that info here about a ½ yr ago.

When will the real performance diesel/drive sell ??

Raylar has been working with a reasonably small lightweight marinized diesel for about two years now and to be honest we've put in on a lower list of priorities right now for three major reasons:
1. The marine high performance market overall has not shown that it is ready to spend the $50K or more it will take to purchase this type of certified properly drive equipped diesel engine package.
2. The US economy and in particular the high performance general boating market is in bad shape right now and promises to stay that way well thru 2008 and possibly into 2009!
3. The high cost of the currently distributed diesel fuels have now surpassed the cost of premium gasoline which is furthur evapaorating the savings from diesel use that would provide a reasonable ROI for the higher cost of diesel engines/drive packages in high performance boats.

We are not far from a finished package but the above condtions merit that we focus more heavily on other areas right now with our limited capital.

Its obvious that there are many entities who can develop their small diesel performance equpped boats with transmissions, drives, etc., but the ability to develop and market these engine/drive packages in quantity to the general high performance boating community takes a tremendous capital commitment and investment, as well as many certification and emissions compliance requirements to be met.

If there are entities (investors) out there who are willing to join us or others in these development realities we in particular will have to delay our entry into this market, even though we have a horse ready for the race!

When the high performance boating community is really ready (cash in hand) to buy these packages in large quantities, the product will be there to meet market demands!

To quote the old cliche , "talk is cheap", its the real buyers that will determine when these packages become available.

Hope its soon!, we would love to build them!

Regards,
Ray @ Raylar

Donzi, just fyi the 5.9 is not made in 600hp configuration, the cummins 8.3 max's at 600hp, at a weight of 1900lbs, very heavy

bob 11-12-2007 07:49 PM

Are there any diesels available under 2000# ea that will put out let's say 1000#' at goverened rpm?
