I have had it up to 6200rpm with no issues before. the cam card had it at .027" intake and .029" exhaust. Not sure what springs are in it. I will probably be pulling the motor.

When We Had The Motor On Zuls Dyno They Set The Valves At 18 Across The Board,,Made More HP,,That Cam Has The 7/4 Swap,,,I Have To Pull Out My Old Bills I Think They Were Comp Springs,,,

good to know if i am able to get it back together. I figured it had a swap for idle purposes.

philm, any new news?
I am formulaing a rebuild plan for the winter of my own. I may convert to EFI and go with Procharger (I am a dealer) Or a 5 litter Whipple and dual quads. I have a Big block Bowtie, with merlin heads and lots of good parts MRD built, but may just sell it complete after freshening it up, and start from scratch with a tall deck and stroke it to 572. Too many options, I want about 1000-1100hp and 110-115mph
Anyone know or want to guess the weight of a Kryptoite? I am having mine weighed next week. It will be a wet test but will still gve me an idea. I may drain the fuel. Hope everyone is well. Have a safe holiday weekend

the 29's tipped the scales at 2,300 pounds and the 27's are about 2,200 pounds. thats hull only with no rigging.

Philm 09-07-2009 07:59 PM

No new news really. I dont really have the funds for a full rebuild right now. I will probably have the motor rebuilt and see if i can sell it and buy a stock 500efi or 525efi. something that will run for 500hours or more with only oil changes. I am not sure right now though. Either that or have a new cam put in it that isnt so aggresive on the valve train.

Not a bad idea. what do you want for the 598?
Also do you know the trans angle of the 29 Kryptonite? I am talking to Arneson about a drive.

Philm 09-11-2009 01:26 AM

no clue what I want for it right now. I have a couple people who have PMed me asking to buy it as is, but I am not sure which way I would like to go with it yet. PM me an offer and maybe we can figure something out. How many hours does your motor have on it?

I am not sure about the transom angle. I was thinking about an arneson, but I just dont think that anyone has had good luck with a single vee surface drive, at least none that I have heard of. Could be a sweet setup.

75 hours on mine. MRD said about 625-650hp it pushes my boat 90mph, with a light load. I pm'd you with more questions on yours.

DonRoc 09-12-2009 02:41 PM

Weight rigged

I took it to the scale and it was 4520# with 360# of fuel in it 58 gallons @ 6.2 PPG (I droped the boat into the water and took the trailer to get a weight and removed that weight from the number). I measured the fuel level with a ruler and used a level to make sure the tank was level. So really close. I weighed everythink loose in the boat and it came up to 82# all the coast guard safety stuff, bumpers, tool kit, etc. I really thought all the stuff I had aboard would weigh more. So mine rigged empty would be about 4,078#
For S&G I weighed the very heavy rear seat bottom... Just about 50# thats 1/2 mph, lol

Off the top of my head i am going to say 12%. but i haven't measure one in a while. If you have a angle finder. just measure the transom angle and the angle of the bottom of the boat and calculate the angle

Philm 09-15-2009 04:39 AM

Damn Don, that is pretty light. I am slightly suprised, I figured more like 5000# wet. Good to know.

I did a slight miss calc on the fuel left in the tank. Figure 4300# wet without fuel. I found out the hard way yesterday that they have a sump in the tank below the sending unit/ pickup. So 5 1/2 " of fuel measured by the pickup is not 1/2 tank (the tank is 11" there). So tomorrow I am going to set the guage with fuel in the tank not inches of fuel. i set it by inches of fuel in the tank. I thought I had an 11" deep tank, measuring by the pickup.

there is no sump in the tank..You are probably feeling the step in the hull. there were a hand full built with glass tanks( late 04 early 05). I believe yours was one of them. most have aluminum tanks which are 95 gallons.

Mine has a glass tank the tag on the tank says 89 gallon. So are you saying the bottom of the tank follows the contour of the bottom of the boat? I set the sender to empty @ the bottom of the tank 11.25" deep. I tested the new sender and it ohm'd within specs. I put 5 gallons of fuel in the tank and it reads 3/8th tank. I installed another sensor same reading. so what I thought was a sump is the center pad of the boat. very narrow giving about 4.5" of fuel and only 5 gallons. ie my reading of 3/8 tank. I am going to set the sender to empty by raising the float 5" off the bottom that will give me some reserve and make the guage a little more accurate. Watching the guage move fast towards E as I got to 1/4 and was 20 miles up the lake was not fun. Last week I filled the tank and ran 140+ miles on 3/8 tank of fuel. the other 5/8th didnt get me 40 miles, I thought this boat gets great fuel economy lol, should have done the math.... granted anyway I do it the top 1/2 will be more fuel than the botton half now I know the tank is not flat on the bottom. But starting @ 5" will make it much easier to manage. at least I have a crew to rescue me and it was a nice day to chill and wait. now i need to change my powervalves and spark plugs. Backfired pretty bad when it ran out of gas. Loaded the plugs on he way back.
Thanks for the info on the tank.

don..yes it follow the contour of the hull. here is a pic so you can see what you have in there, but yours has baffles in there.

Thank you. How did you happen to have a pic. Did you work with Kirk?
Thanks again for all the input.

Lauderdaleboats 09-15-2009 09:53 PM

2300LBS sounds light. What's the layup schedule on the hull?

Philm 09-16-2009 01:02 AM

That is pretty cool Vinnie, thanks for the pics.:coolcowboy:

Mine has the Aluminum tank, but even so, the gauge is still not terribly accurate. I can run 150+miles on a half tank, and all of a sudden it goes to E within the next 10 miles.:lolhit:
