Merc Verado 350

Nice price tag of $29,000 for that bad boy.
Would like to here some thoughts that anyone has on this
new engine Merc announced at show todat. the V350
A few other details are leaking out from the boatbuilders and such. Some details:

1. it's a new engine and not just a software dialup of the 300. It has new heads, new supercharger and other internal parts changes....no change in boost pressure.
2. It is the same displacement as all other 6 cyl verados.
3. It will burn 91 mandatory and carry the same warr as the XS 300 (2 yr).
4. some changes to the gearcase - I assume more strength
5. and it is WILD looking....look for pics here on the start of the show with another surprise that will blow you away.
6. about the same weight as any othe 6 cyl verado (635)
ne.

I would assume the 300xs is not changing??Guess Mercury had to throw one at Yamaha:angry-smiley-038:

So I guess this is the boat that showed up for the big Mercury Fountain challenge? Does anyone know what it ran with those motors? 82-85? I think the quad 250 boats did 84 with an extra motor dragging.

I bet you there is already a quad 350 boat running around right now. Imagine the price of that boat, I am thinking a quad 350 deep impact or cigarette topfish. Half milllion dollar center consoles here we come.

boating37 02-14-2008 01:10 PM

Marylandmark how does a 30cc with twin 350V sound?
Should be a 82mph boat.

DRIVEN1 02-14-2008 01:21 PM

[QUOTE=marylandmark;2445237]So Merc or Merc Racing product- sounds like racing with the warranty?

It is under the Mercury Racing website and has the same warranty has your xs do.

Pismo10 02-14-2008 01:27 PM

2.2 hp per cube!! Yikes, how long is that going to last.

The gear cases had some issues before. Its probably got hardened internals now like all the race outboards have. Still helical, not near net forged straights, for it has no expansion tank for gear lube.

The cars.com boat is a quad 300xs boat. I am talking about the hooters boat when it had 250s on it, that was an 84 mph boat. But 85 with 3 motors on that big boat is impressive.

yahoo 02-15-2008 06:10 AM

What kind of lower ? Does it have low water pickups ?

The write up says it has straight cut gears.

boating37 02-15-2008 12:03 PM

Well 2 350V @ $60,000. or 4 300xs @ $60,000 wich way would you go?

Can't wait to see the responces!!

the weight savings of a 300xs makes up for the 50 less HP imho, but I'd have a hard time giving up the extra 1000 rpm you get w/ a verado. I miss the old days when you could get a 2stroke outboard to turn 8500.

MOBILEMERCMAN 02-15-2008 01:01 PM

God bless the transom that has to hold those things.

boating37 02-15-2008 02:41 PM

Ok I think your better off going with 3 300xs and save 15k for gas beer and girls, and have 900hp 1515 lbs.

Or go with 2 350V 60K 700hp ,1334lbs.
Same warranty 2 years and same 91 oct.

Young or old it does not matter. But that picture with quad 300xs hanging off the back is just plain sick looking.

yahoo 02-16-2008 10:33 AM

Thats a big prop shaft, they must be going Higher with the HP.

What kind of props will it use ?

JIMKID Motorsports 02-16-2008 11:03 AM

Cig has one in the water at the show with three on it skips personell boat

tblrklakemo 02-16-2008 11:43 AM

so will this be something to hang off the back of a new 30 skater....or the 350 V8?

So if the Fountain 38 is doing just under 85 that means the topfish should be doing around 65 and be priced around $150,000 to $200,000 more.:evilb:

LapseofReason 02-16-2008 01:53 PM

The Cig. looks cool but they need to get the speed up, it's pretty much the slowest of the nice center consoles out there. You could buy 2 used 39 Midnights that are faster for what one trip 300v Cig cost, let alone the 400k 4 motor boat.

I am pulling for the 4 stokes to get better and lighter, 2 strokes are for chain saws and weed wackers. It won't be too much longer till the 4 strokes are better in every way, the 4 strokes have been coming on strong the last 5 years and in 5 I bet they are the motor to have, witch aint bad since it's been a 2 stroke world for ever as far as perfomance.

I am in the motorcycle biz and when the MX bikes started going 4 stroke they were big heavy pigs that blew up all the time, now they are just a few pounds more and it's worth it, they are so much better. And now we get more 2 stroke rebuilds in than 4 stroke and it's only been 8 or so years that they have been making them. I would say by 2010 only the real light 2 stroke race engines are what will be better than the 4 strokes, just like the MX bikes. but I don't think 3 or 4 2.5 race motors would do good on the back of a 12000# V hull.

So what do you think about the YFZ450? I am thinking about buying one. Mike

yahoo 02-16-2008 05:34 PM

The verados would be interesting on a 30 skater.

Power steerint, fly by wire and low sound.

The lower unit is a problem, they need to add the speedmaster or something like it.

2007 with very little hours, it is owned by a friend of the family that is going on disability and was told he can not own it anymore. He has probably done $2500-$3500 in Yamaha accessories to it. Most of them were just installed in December and the bike was bought in July of 2007. It is blue in color. What do you think a fair price would be for it? Mike

LapseofReason 02-17-2008 08:22 AM

3500 would be a lot of a coin for just bolt on's unless he went into the motor too , but I wouldn't pay over 5k for a used dirt bike. It is a great bike I have a YZ 450 a 250 and the new 700 Grizzley.

He basically did every add on out of the factory book. I know he did the head pipe, mufflers, jet kit, cdi, extended a-arms, and a butt load of smaller items. So do not pay more than 5k? He was trying to tell me he wanted close to 8k for it and I was thinking I would just go buy a new one for that price. He does have the extended warranty on it.

LapseofReason 02-17-2008 12:02 PM

You mean a YFZ 450 4 wheeler, you could add another grand for that, plus he prob. put on some good nerf bars, and stuff cost more for them. They are fast but unless your just going to race it they kinda suck for just play riding since they don't have reverse. If you want to stick to a 450 some of the others have rev. if you want to stick to Yamaha go with the Raptor 700. If you have rutted up trails and mud where you ride go look at the Can Am Renegade X 800 that thing is a beast and will beat most anything in bad terrain.

Mark, you know I like the outboards also. The next boat will have outboards , just deciding on the boat and motors.
I think the topfish is a very nice looking boat ,it is just priced about $150,000 more than i think it is worth. I would be impressed if it did 77mph based on the speeds I have seen posted on the other boats. Those motors look very mean looking!!

I wonder what a concept 30sd with twin 350s will do? 85ish?

FeverMike 02-17-2008 05:29 PM

the Cig prices are out of this world...I mean Cigs are nice but there is a point when the price just does not merit the product.

Also if you look at the classifieds the picture for NON PERFORMANCE BOATS is a Topfish....

On the funds and price point I am trying to meet...or...money unlimited?

For me... Florida boating, outboard engines, boating every weekend or so and keeping a boat on the lift behind my house plus I want to down size the boat:

I like the setup seating arrangement of the 35 Donzi ZFX and the new helm and rear seat deal that they have coming out. They build this arrangment in the 38 also.

I was impressed with 32 Everglades build and attention to details. Everglades has some cool ideas.

I also was extremely impressed with the 323 Intrepid...all the Intrepid's were very well detailed with excellent functional idea's but the 2 year wait kills it for me.

That is probably because this sites past owner is tight with Cigarette. The Topfish is a cool looking boat but it is over the top and not what a lot of CC guys are looking for. When I see the Top Fish I start thinking of all the extra maintance it will take to keep all that bling working and looking good.

[QUOTE=FeverMike;2448748]On the funds and price point I am trying to meet...or...money unlimited?

Unlimited funds this would be my boat.
http://www.yachtforums.com/forums/mi...uperyacht.html

Now back to reality, the next boat will be outboard powered, fast, and not draw too much. Also no a/c, generators, or extra crap to break down.
