Sorry for your loss. We a have a yellow lab that is 6 years old and she is also another one of the kids. She is laying at my feet as I type this. I can't bear to see the day your having.

I can fully relate. We don't have children so the family pet is our child. We've had to put 2 of our dogs down and you're right - it's the hardest decision. One was a Siberian Husky and she had cancer. The other was a Pom and she had an enlarged heart. Part of what makes it such a hard decision is just our selfishness, wanting to keep our beloved friends around. Once you look back, you'll know you did the right thing for Jake. He obviously had a great home and loving family.

Take Care.

Sorry for your loss - I know what you are going through.

I lost my Mastiff, Wilson two weeks ago. He was only a year old, and I was out of town when he passed away.

Take some comfort in the fact that you had 11 good years together, and you got to say that last goodbye.

First let me extend my deepest sympathy. I read the posts made yesterday and cried all evening. Was able to compose myself to read everything that has been written today. My golden is 10 and has affected my life and my families life profoundly, much the same as Jake did yours, and you can take comfort in knowing that Jake is not suffering any longer.

I have suffered the loss of other animals and it is so heart breaking, but the lab family is so much more personable and loving than other breeds that I have owned, and they are truly family members that capture your heart and love immediately. I tell my wife that our dog isn't really a dog, he is a human in dogs clothing, and I don't believe I could ever own another dog should this one pass before I do, so to that end I have requested that whichever should pass first, that the ashes be saved until the other passes, and that our ashes be buried together. What will happen in the afterlife, I don't know but I know that I want to leave with man's best friend.
