I Said My Last Goodbye Today...
#81
Never in 37 years have I seen my father cry so much as the day he had to say goodbye to his Police K-9 partner.
He often says when he dies, he expects to see him waiting for him at the gates of heaven waggin his tail.

I can fully relate. We don't have children so the family pet is our child. We've had to put 2 of our dogs down and you're right - it's the hardest decision. One was a Siberian Husky and she had cancer. The other was a Pom and she had an enlarged heart. Part of what makes it such a hard decision is just our selfishness, wanting to keep our beloved friends around. Once you look back, you'll know you did the right thing for Jake. He obviously had a great home and loving family.
Take Care.

Sorry for your loss - I know what you are going through.
I lost my Mastiff, Wilson two weeks ago. He was only a year old, and I was out of town when he passed away.
Take some comfort in the fact that you had 11 good years together, and you got to say that last goodbye.
