Question Gears in outdrive???

A buddy of mine has a 32' baja (1992).
He had one of his outdrives out for repair and found out they have 1:36 gears, He thinks he wants to change back to 1:50 because he can only spin the motors to about 4600rpm's, with 23p props. Now the motors are 502's with carbs 375hp (??), and abuot 275hrs on each. He wants to get one more year out of the motors, then rebuild next winter and and add about 150-200hp each.
Here is the question:
Should he swap gears and buy 25p props?
Should he run what he has and step up the power on the rebuild?
It run 66mph with 1:36 and 23p at 4600rpm,s.

Thanks in advance
Tom

200hp each is going to make that a different boat all together. I would think save the drives and deal for the season and then go to the larger power and see what he thinks. Isn't the 1.3 ratio drive stronger???
