On behalf of Steve Miklos and Adib Mastry, I would like to announce their entry into the Don Aronow Memorial Race.

Good luck to all.

Just spoke to Barry Cohen. He will be at the reunion for sure, but Ghost Rider may not make it. He is waiting for engines to be put in up here in the North East.

Barry used to drive a big Magnum, Dreadnought, shown here in the bottom photo under the Aronow outboard shot. But he also has been the guardian of Ghost Rider for over 40 years.

Ghost Rider looks pretty crude compared to today's race boats, but in 1966 it was the leading edge of technology and design. It raced in the USA, Europe and the Bahamas and won every race it entered.

Please say hello to Barry for me, and I look forward to seeing him after some forty years. Short story, I think it was Maimi Nassau race 1968 or 7- I was racing a 28 Memco, and John Stenbach was racing the wood 30 something Formula cat with triple 1250 BPs and Barry had the huge at the time Magnum dreadnaught pictured, anyway we all broke down going accross the gulf stream, we had to stay in Cat Cay and at the time there were no accomodations, and for some reason it got very cold out that night, so about five or six of us slept on Barry`s race boat, bare floors and smell of diesel, I think he broke the tanks. One good thing it was warm, and I`ll never forget it. I was the kid on the circuit at the time, and Barry was a hero to us with the big boat etc.

At least one other SVL will be running too. Maybe this is the chance for the SVL grudge match to take place.

Richie:

Small World

Barry Cohen bought his first race boat from K&K outboard in 1966 when I was a skinny, boat racer, kid who (allegedly) "worked" there. K&K, at that time, was probably the number one racing shop in the northeast. We had a number of race hulls running out of the shop in OPC and offshore, and we probably had the most experience with twin outboards in the region.

We rigged a black 16 foot flat bottomed outboard Rayson Craft with twin Merc 1100's for him to race in the Hudson River Marathon and Lake George OPC Nationals. Barry was living in Long Beach, Long Island at the time and drove a Black Ferrari Luso that, to this day, remains as one of the most beautiful cars I have ever seen.

I remember thinking at the time that, after pounding his *ss off in that Rayson Craft, it was obvious why his next step was into the biggest offshore race boat that money could buy. I believe that big Magnum was originally owned by Dinny Phipps...... Brownie?

T2rex, that was the original "Big Bad Donzi" which became a 35' Magnum. Don finished second by 9 feet in the Round Long Giland race to me in the "Little Broad Jumper' in '66.
