Becasue of the design that they use they do not need a tweeter. Will the highs be as good as say a pair of JL's with the tweeter up high.... probably not. Lets not forget however that these are boats and for the most part we don't go out to do critical listening of music Babbs are still my favorite for what they do over all. I often times will run a mixture of different speakers to take advantage of all the best features.

Have you heard the Classic vs. Reference line? Also considering (4) 9.5's under rear bench and (2) 7" or 6"x9" speakers beside each front bolster. Also looking for suggestions on amp's. Plan on driving cuddy speakers off of head unit power only like last boat.
Thanks Steve

Honestly, Sonicly they are about the same. Reference will take more power. I would probably rather see 2 of the 9.5's 2 real sub woofers and then the 7's up front. You will get better bass that way

I ran 70 watts RMS with a Rockford Fosgate amp to my Babb 6x9's. They are rated at 80 rms and 300 peak, so I'm sure they'll take more power. I'm going to use an Alpine PDX 4.100 to power them this time. Test watts were 121. I'll probably back the gain off a little. The PDX is great amp, low heat, low power draw and compact. Same rms power at 4 ohms or 2 ohms.
