The weather on this side of the Gulf is not bad at all. The Yucatan side tho is quite a different story. The remnants of Tropical storm Arthur are still lingering. Attached forecast below says currently 25 knot winds and up to 8 ft seas for the SW Gulf. Even later in the week they are saying 10 to 15 knots and 3 - 5ft. seas.
Some of my crew are wanting to do the Jacksonville Poker Run this coming weekend. I have released them to do that and hopefully after the weekend we will be in a better weather system and good to go.
This has been quite a learning experience. The SW Gulf seems to get its weather out of the Carribean thru the Yucatan Straits and the eastern Gulf mostly influenced by the Atlantic. Now if we could just have a large high pressure system settle in over the entire southern Gulf ........ oh, well. LOL :D
We will continue to wait and watch.
Bob

You mean " unpredictable ?? LOL

I was thinking - If this were 15 or 20 years ago this run would be done and over with and in the record books. I guess as we get older we are a little wiser and have more respect for the elements.
In 1991 I decided to go to Bimini for lunch one day. Took an hour to go out in calm seas. Coming back we got caught with a front coming down from the north and we were in 15 footers in no time. It took 3.5 hrs to get back and the boat took on so much salt water it was pretty well wrecked. A few of my lessons learned were: pay attention to the weather forecast, carry a life raft when offshore, have a back up VHF radio ( ours quit with the soaking, have good navigation equipment and know where you are at all times ( had compass only ), file a float plan and I could go on but those are some of the key things that come to mind.
Safe boating to everyone.:D
Bob
