Damn. I was hoping to see a 1000 GPM pump in action, sucking out a bilge. It would probably suck the boat right down the hose.

It is down there in small text and no where else to be found. Even there it isn't clear what is covered and what isn't. What classifies a 'beached' boat, or a hard grounded boat, or ? In spirit it sounds like you are covered unless the shiat is hitting the fan. In practice it isn't the case

.

At the TowBoatUS site, it was quite clear. They said a soft grounding is one where one tow boat can free a craft at the next high tide within a 15 minutes of effort time-frame. That sounded entirely reasonable to me. If during that grounding a hole was opened up in my hull and my bilge pumps were unable to keep up with it, I'd be quite thankful to have someone there to prevent a sinking and to take me and my passengers to safety. Yes, it might cost a bunch, but substantially less than the alternative.

Pleeeeeease- this isn't an endorsement of what they did at SIB or some of their other tactics. But at the same time, I can imagine dozens of scenarios where I would be absolutely relieved to see professional help arrive on the scene, regardless of cost.

What really gets me about this whole thread, is the VP of Sea Tow is DEFENDING their actions, like it's their job to screw people in trouble.
If I were ST, I would be apologizing my azz off, firing the scumbags and giving back the 8G's and then some to make this all go away. I guess they really do suck.

HHMM we had a mechanical issue yesterday, and I did not call Sea Tow, (and we have a membership) simply because of this thread. Waited until a friend could come get us. I really hope a news agency does a report, that would stop BS chit like this.

Thank you very much for providing. I'm going to make up one fairly similar based on that if you don't mind. I really think every boater should have something similar on board after reading this thread.

I thank you again very sincerely. I've got my moneys worth of OSO in this thread alone, looks like I need to pay my money and join up.

Thank you again Paradox.

I'm trying to ascertain whether anyone here WITH a membership has had Sea Tow pull the "salvage" trick on them with say a soft grounding, or other non-dangerous peril, or do they just pull this on non-members.

Good article. But a pain in the ass to find on their site.
