Prayers and Thoughts to Bobthebuilder

As many of you know Bobthebuilder in his brand new 50' diesel Nor tech just set a new speed record traveling by boat from Key West to Cancun. Bob and his crew did an amazing job and are all still pretty excited. Unfortunately for Bob shortly before the return trip a stumble at the dock has resulted in a shoulder injury that will require some serious surgery. He will be having his surgery Wednesday at the Cleveland Clinic.

Many of you have met Bob and of course so many more know him from OSO as one of the true champions and gentlemen of offshore boating. Please join me in wishing him a successful surgery and speedy recovery so he can get back to the sport he truly loves. Bob we are all praying for you.

This is what he posted on another thread about the injury
The rotator cuff is majorly torn and the upper part of the bicept muscle that goes over the shoulder has been pulled down in front.
I am scheduled for surgery this Wed. the 2nd to have everything put back where it belongs. This is really gonna cramp my boating style for awhile, but did not stop me from getting out on the water this weekend.

Mike, If you need this type of surgery do not leave it. One of the things that will happen is the tendons will shrink ( attrophy) and then cannot be stretched back into place. It can result in a permanent disability.
All the best,
Bob

Tracy, I am sick about having to miss Boyne. The fam overruled me and for once I need to listen to them and the doc.
I was so looking forward to it and have not ruled out driving up there to party with all my MI friends. I need to return to Cleveland earlier that week for post op check up and will then see if I'm up for the drive. I will be in touch with JB. :)

O.K. Bob, time to take it easy for awhile. Proper rest and rehab is key for a complete recovery.
I just want to know how close Hans was standing next to you when you "fell", you know he wears that Predator shirt everywhere. I 'll ask Terry for his witness statement later............... Please get well soon, and let us know what we can do for you this time!!!!!

Bob, I got bucked off a horse 3-4 years ago and torn my shoulder up bad, the top tendon was torn off the bone, the peck muscle was completely torn and the rear was 1/2 torn. The best advise I got was the doctors can only do 40% the final 60% is you and rehab. My big advise is get in a pool and start to move it as soon as the doctors give you the Ok. Also the physical theropy is extremely important, you get out what you put in. Mine took about 8 months before it was close to normal and that was with alot of hard work. Sleeping took a long time to get use to sitting up so you didn't lay on the shoulder, then it took just as long to get use to sleeping laying down. Good luck with the surgery

CAPTAIN CHUCK 06-30-2008 09:35 PM

i had shoulder surgery last october at rogue valley hospital in ajax/pickering. had a bad water skiing fall and took a couple bad beats snowboarding so after a while it kept slipping out of the socket. it seems to be all better today, and was worth being laid up for a couple months.

good luck with the surgery! wish you all the best!

US MUSL 06-30-2008 11:47 PM

I hope that you have a speedy recovery. You will be back on the water before you know it.

Jack

Bob,

From the few times we talked I pegged you as an achiever and a minor setback like this to you is more than likely seen as part of the small bumps on the path to attain & accomplish great things.

Hope everything turns out fine I know you will make it happen that way!
