Zero In fact one son bought a boat this year and the other is going to rebuild his blown engine and get back in the water despite having a new born. (I think its his wife's idea).
I decided to save money by selling my flybridge Bayliner and buying a 382. I figure the $4000.00 I save in slip & storage fees will buy plenty of gas. |
I have slowed down quite a bit from years past and have been thinking of downsizing. I seam to have replaced the time on the water with time on the motorcycle.

I have a single engine (502) Envision at Lake of the Ozarks and we still use it quite a bit, but not nearly as much as we once did. It used to be that we would go up the lake at a moments notice to a bar or to eat. Now when we talk about it, I am thinking "OK, 20 miles round trip at 1.5mpg at $4.25 a gallon.........."
We use our 4 stroke waverunners alot more, and also go fishing alot more in the bass boat with a 60 hp merc. That being said, at one time last week, I was paying for the gas for the boat, 2 waverunners, and the bass boat going to the same place! I've been in a boat since I was born (I'm 43) and so have my teenage kids. I would have a canoe before I would get off the water. |
with the single outboard, it Cost me more in beer last weekend than it did in gas. Considering our speed limit in the ICW is 30, and I do 55 its all good, taking it to the gulf next weekend to run it harder:drink:

If people want to boat with you and won't chip in, they aren't friends.

I'll never quit boating, but I sure am doing it less than before. And differently too. 6 knots instead of 60. Spend 4 days instead of 4 hours at the island.
Repower with diesels perhaps? |
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.
6 knots will never take your breath away. as somebody on the forum says: "It's not fun until your eyes water" I didn't understand that last until I was cruising along at 50 one day and my eyes were watering and I had a big sh_ _ eating grin on my face |
as someone else posted " on pause"...
have been collecting new parts for years , engine has been built for 3 years ... was talking with ultimate cat (nick) about blue printing/re-gel the bottom this past spring, and interior...needed to put that on hold.... would have only required 1 trip down to that part of florida to get work performed... but that all cost's good $$$$ with the way things are can not justify going foward then or right now because i do not have the ability to pay for it. i have done everything so far paying with liquid - no credit. i would love to hear those dry pipes scream ! have more time than money..... |
I'm just going for Broke!.....I love boating more than life itself and can't stop! Somebody please HELP me...Intervention is needed!!!!
We had a blast @ the Jammin On the James run; Thanks Steve & James! |
