Add to this, perhaps there was not enough tongue weight due to the undersized tire, and it could start fishtailing. I've blown a tire on a two axle trailer at highway speed, and the it was a non-event. I just coasted down as you would with any blowout, and pulled over. The remaining tire kept everything under control.

Bad, glad everyone is ok.

But i think a boat over 6000 # should be towed with a dually.
Even in stupid situations they handle what ever sways alot easyer.

About 5 years ago I had my left rear tire on my truck blow out while towing down I-95. It sounded like a shotgun blast and i saw rubber fly across the highway. It was scary stuff and all i was left with was about 2 inches of rubber sidewall on each side of the rim. Scary stuff. I got lucky and was able to keep it under control. Did i mention it scared the crap outta me?

I think it was Sydways who posted a pic of his straps. They look like overkill until you see something like this. He reminded all that not only do the straps have to hold the boat down but they have to prevent the boat from becoming a missile aimed at the back of your head.

Must have def. been a tow vehicle tire blow, none of the trailer tires look shreadded like the ones I have seen blown out in the past.

That trailer is beat up on that one side.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned speed as a possible contributing factor.

There was an accident in Ohio last summer- a Topgun slid on wet bunks, went over the towing truck and hit another vehicle, killing the driver.

Straps would have prevented that.
