Brownie ,i love how you say things.
Ofcorse its not like back in the days and yes we all wanna be like DON or the other big names ,but the opertunity is not there.
I am racing in P-4 (my rookie year) i own the old MR ZIP AEROTEK which was an A-Class boat.
I would love to have that class back where they tell you 510 ci NA and go as fast as you can.
But ,.......its not happening.
So i quess today its just about FUN and to be part of something that was big once ?!

If Bob Teague has to beg other boats to show up......but guys are stepping over each other to get into classes where you can't exceed a set speed (in a BOAT RACE for chrissakes!!!)what does that say about the "sport" and the true desire to compete
Nice statement, sad but true.

And you just nailed it........

If you were to see a pre race line up of:

JT

Michael Seebold
Ben Robertson
Gary Ballough
Jeff Harris
Joe Sgro
Bob Teague
Steve Page
The Roman Brothers
David Knight
Wyatt Fountain
Joe Imprescia
Billy Moore
...I could go on

You'd have a GREAT boat race!

But the boat owners insist on putting all of these guys in different classes, and the racers, fans and sponsors don't know enough to insist on a single class and a single sanctioning body...because they have never seen it.

It seems to me there are two roads here

1. It is what it is, and it used to be better, but cest la vie

or

2. Simplification would do a world of good for this sport and raise it to a whole other level where there was value to sponsors, fans, and racers alike.

Like I said earlier, the potential is there....

the execution is sadly lacking.

I agree

Rich,

The big question is can it be done, and who can do it ?

If it's just about fun, I suggest Poker Runs. Everybody is a winner in those events.

If you want to engender fan interest, and a broad base of sponsor opportunities, you need competition and winners and losers, and in most motorsports even the back markers get more sponsor dollars than Offshore's alleged "winners".

Don't get me started. When the OPBRA became APBA Offshore, I was the US Delegate to the UIM. My job was keeping the APBA rules aligned with the UIM rules, and vice versa. We were able to do that for many years. We had furriners by the gobs in those days, and lots of our guys raced all over Europe. Then the ego crisis hit, and it all went to (rhymes with it). I think the closest thing to parity is P1. I guess if you boil it down, we are 'club racing', like the SCCA.

My point is he is going to get nothing more out of it than fun right now

Nothing wrong with having fun as long as you have all the safety requirements met and can be proffesional on how you approach it
