Didn't Fabio build a 55' 4 engine monster?

HabanaJoe 06-19-2011 07:16 PM

The Sony boat and she was twin Isotta, but I think at one point either her or a sister was done as a quad? Might have built as quad and re-rigged to twin???

Correct, when she was La Gran Argentina it was rigged with 4 Seateks.

Very cool, thanks for sharing the link. I love Apaches, but I agree with your statement.

I don't know about it against the 47 Apache in rough seas.............but the 46 Skater guys raced against Buzzi.

And there you have it. Big cats can hold their own against the big Vs.

That's because the wimpy courses that are raced today are designed for cats. There are enough flat legs for these 140 mph boats to catch up and throttle back in the rough stuff. Look at Ocean City 93. Tweet Revenge spanked the cats... one of which broke up and landed on the beach in pieces... Everett.. have you ever raced a cat in 4 - 6 foot seas? If so, I want to be your chiropractor.

I've raced in 4 to 6 and bigger. How about yourself? I have nothing to prove. Just asking

I agree that the tracks are designed for the smaller cats & vee's to have a chance to race, AND be seen by the spectators. However, the big cats & vee's will go as far as you want in a straight line, in any water, with the cats leading the pack.

I've been lucky to have ridden/driven in the biggest, baddest cats, as well as the biggest, baddest vee bottoms over the years, & the cats are considerably faster & more stable than the vee's in every condition.

I like that idea. Where is there water that is consistently 5 ft or more? New Jersey? Lake Michigan?

Comanche3Six 06-20-2011 03:05 PM

Wouldn't that be some great offshore race! The water size in Atlantic City 2010 would be perfect! Apache Heritage with some modern Mercury Racing 1350's & M8 drives (Richie Powers & the original crew would be the best!) A 46 race Skater with the same power ( Jim "Freedom US1" & crew would be the best choice!) And of course Fabio Buzzi in his diesel monster! Now that's real Offshore Racing with the top guys!.....

VtSteve 06-20-2011 04:55 PM

There has to be some footage of the cats and vees racing together in rough water. At some point, someone has to pass something. How about the Miami to Bimini race? That can usually provide some entertainment.

But in reality, with extremely rough conditions, it has to be about the crew. (and the punishment they are willing to endure) There's a huge difference between running fast in rougher water, and running "Comfortably" in it. Being the best rough water boat doesn't equate to being the fastest from point A to point B.

Yes I have. Cougars though.. not the more modern Skater. Although, in the cougars we stood. I would love to see you guys run some of the courses we ran in the 80's. You and I both know it's not going to happen.

That is not rough water...if somebody has pics of the water in AC 2010.......were the race was postponed.........that was rough water! Apache Water!

I doubt more than 2-3 people realistically would have wanted to run in that water. So for the other 300,450,000 people, it doesn't matter :party-smiley-004:

That's pretty rough water in the vid. Maybe not the worst, but pretty darn bad. Perhaps we need to break this down by feet and average speed. Say, what boat can go over 65 mph in 20 to 30 footers? It would make for an exciting video, but little else.

Perhaps broken bones or concussions would be a better guide?

Aronow & Kramer used to love to race that type of water.........6' to 8' .........and yes there were broken bones & concussions. Offshore racing......dangerous....and it was exciting!
