Best rough water boat ever built?????
#634
I saw this apache at OL, and the next year another 47 was traded in to OL. that was the one from mass that was silver/red/yellow maybe. but that says something about OL, when two owners of fresh apaches trade them in after one season. also heard the saber41s run real fast. happy new year. ps I been a 46 skater in some rough water off block island 5 plus rough a nuff to beat the chit out of the vees that met us that were 32 to 38s that weekend and it was fun in the 46.

The new Pantera 41' built for Ocean Dragon racing team did NOT have "catastrophic" damage done to it. It did not break apart and sink.
As a matter of fact we are very proud of the entire team on what they accomplished at the Cowes race weekend back in early September. They took a very impressive 2nd place "overall" on Friday's Cowes 100 race only to Fabio Buzzi in his 4 engine 46' foot diesel powered race boat with twice the horsepower and a much heavier boat.
On Sunday the team went out in brutal sea conditions in the Cowes-Torquay-Cowes race and were in the front again to the half way point battling with Buzzi when drive damage occured to the # 6 drives and 5 blade props and the team had to call it quits. Remember this Pantera 41' is only powered by twin 525 EFI Mercs. In a field of over 30 boats including many legendary rough water boats with much more horsepower the Pantera was way out front giving a strong challenge to Buzzi.

Spoke with some guys sorting the Pantera 41' boat out at Cowes when the boat was back on it's trailer and they said, which seemed obvious at the time due to the visible damage, that they hit something big which damaged the props and took a chunk out of the skeg so if their was any further boat related problems in some way it was understandable given the pounding the boat received
Just before the boats gather in the muster area to start the Cowes Torquay Cowes 200+mile race ... it was reasonably sheltered at the start but got much rougher out in the open seas ...

Wow, even in the Offshore world this is still a waste of time asking the question about Best Riding
On this forum, I guess the better question would be
"What boat can go the fastest in very rough water?"
In the general boating world, it would be "What boat are you comfortable riding in while going through very rough water?"
My guess is there are still several answers, but maybe a bit more limited than the ones given thus far. It's like saying the best car available is a discontinued model.
Again, size parameters would be more realistic.
