Never saw a 41 lose its nose...or anything else for that matter. The Apache that you saw stuff in our video was going at least 20 mph faster than any Bertram ever saw. Don't confuse dominance at 70 mph with dominance at 90. T2x |
THis is by far a great and in enjoyable reading with all the “opinions”. But.. to many “bests” from submarines to carriers, to race boats to cruisers etc.
Let’s clarify. First.. Best “rough water” boat in the racing/performance/poker run market. Under 40’ over 40’ I can’t put up my 33 Avanti to a 47 Apache, but I will put her up against any 33’-35’ Size does matter. Next.. .Best “non performance” (no race boats) .. again under 40 over 40. Suthpan made some great rough water “performance” as well as cruiser type boats. Then there is the definition of ”rough”. Let’s say that “rough” means generally… waves big enough to be a white knuckle situation, small enough to keep on plane, and hit 70. Few floating devises will handle the Baring “rough” Straights. IE, Fountains are pretty fast. Apaches were great legends of their times. But I suggest two situations. A) Race.. from Dover to Calais. B) Poker run from Chicago to Benton harbor. Now we are talking about Big waters. I was in the Pier 33 run and I seen the “performance boats” bopping around like ping pong balls while a 55 Cary passed everyone and they were drinking champagne. So speed.. rough waters, etc. are all relative.. Now.. let’s see some opinions. :ernaehrung004: |
I'd put any of the following up against a 41 Apache in any water:
43 Tencara 46 Skater 50 Jaguar |
I THINK.... we should limit threads like this for people who own or have owned one of the boats they talk about. that way we dont have all these "computer powerboating cowboys" chiming in on something they have no idea about... can anyone guess which boat im rooting for?????
starts with and A..... |

43 Tencara 46 Skater 50 Jaguar I believe the 40 foot Skater will give the 41 Apache a run (I've seen one eat up a 47 Apache in a very rough race...but the 41 is a better boat). The famous footage off Point Pleasant was shot on a day when the 50 foot Popeye's Aluminum Cougar cat could not run in the conditions. Certain boats simply excel in the rough for their size, the 41 Apache, the 40 foot Skater, the 30 foot Shadow, the Cougar Vees, and Buzzi's behemoths. |
