I love my Pantera.
From what I hear from other owners and from what I have read on OSO, unless you buy a race layup, they are not that 'scary' fast without big power. I can attest that I have pulled away from 35 Fountains in rough water though. I even smoked an old 42 Fountain with small engines (454's).
The fastest mine has gone is 81.6 on GPS. I have a different prop on it now but I havent had a GPS in the boat since so I am not sure what the speed gain is but probably picked up 1-2mph. Need another 300 RPM....
Tell your buddy he cant go wrong with a Pantera. Thed single engine, according to alot of my buddies, runs very very nice and is well balanced but because of the size and one engine it can be a bit of a pain in the ass around the docks.....
Jo and Pepe are veyr nice guys and helped me make the decision to buy my boat. Hell, they even gave me and 4 of my hooligan buddies from Toronto an hour long tour of the shop in March when we were down in South Beach partying.
Cant beat that. They really take pride in what they do.
