What a shame. I hope the other passenger has a speedy recovery.

Found this, midnight.

"Lexington Man Killed In Boating Accident

A night on the lake turns deadly for a Lexington man, after his boat crashes into an island.

The accident happened around midnight near the "Cemetery Island" area of Lake Cumberland... in Russell County.

The coroner says 44-year old William Todd Jackson did not see the island until moments before he reached it. Jackson apparently tried to swerve out of the way, but the boat hit the island, flipped, and then landed on top of him.

A woman on the boat was thrown off and suffered only a broken arm."

The guy might have been allright if he hadn't swarved at the last moment. He may have just run aground like the countless other boats that have done that. The police report says that they suspect that alcohol was involved.

The spot where he was killed is just a few miles up the lake from our place at a marina on LC. We went by that spot on our way back from dinner in a friends boat earlier that evening. There were just a ton of boats out there after dark and from all the spot-lights turning on and off you could tell that many of them were Holiday Weekend boaters that didn't know the lake.

We saw the boat upside down on the island yesterday and it was a very disturbing site to say the least.

Prayers to the familys.

Article says it was a rental. Running at night in that kind of boat with a low level of experience (assumption on my part) would seem to be a bad combination.

Condolences to friends and family.

Heck, two more went up in the exact same spot as those two did last year on one of the earlier holiday weekends this year.
I think more weekends than not, I've read of a hard grounding on the lake this year.
