Cutwater: Thank you, it's been a wonderful trip, these past several decades. Guys like T2X have been part of that landscape and made for memories that will last a lifetime.

T2X, you old goat! You've got more experience in your pinky than the Encyclopedia has of history

I think I know what you mean by "Obsolete", and I'm grinning big time

Steve

KIWI Craig,
Yes that is a 31 Larry Smith Scarab, Former "Patriot Wave" from the west coast. I think it even won a couple of national events.
No it doesn't run 100 but I know it has gone 96 on GPS , which is pretty respectable.

i thought i recognised the boat, I owned it and completely rerigged it in 1995. I raced it as Team Archer Marine with Eric Colby driving, winning the west coast championship that year, best we ever got out of it was 93 and it was allready out of bottom to run on. Craig

KIWI Craig,
Small world huh ?! Lenny must have bought the boat from the person you sold it to.
What kind of power did you have in it ?
Lenny rerigged it for pleasure use, it doesn't have staggered motors anymore and it actually has a cockpit. He did add a Ballast tank because the boat was really light in the bow.
It now has 565ci N/A motors (725hp) and when he went 96 he had the drives all the way up on the boxes, after a summer of cracking blades on Bravo ones he lowered them and the boat seem to have slowed down but we have not gps it again, it still runs 5600rpm's with the 1.36's and 28 B1's .

The scarab was built as a race boat, rigged and throttled by my brother Brett in about 92. I bought it in changed it to a staggered set up in 95, the boat before I changed it was to loose and topped out at about 88. It was allways run as a B boat and in 95 I had a pair of P Pfaff's motors. They were restricted (B class rules) to 468ci 9 to 1 comp with stock heads. Back then they made about 570-590 hp. In a radar run with POPBRA in Northern Ca it ran 91mph in very confused 2-3's. the record for B back then was 92, but I was busy running Rique Fords Ragamuffin while he was injured to pursue the record. After bouncing through the kilo traps with Nigel Hook in his 26 scarab whilst trying to break our own record (dumb move) and be the first A boat to break 100, i tended to concentrate on winning races and leave the records to others.
For the record,
fastest I have been, with Howard Arnerson about 160!
fastest in my own creation, Rique Fords 40 scater, first day out at about 142 on gps (shifter was there)
fastest in a V. Nigels Conseco 43 at 128
dumbest 100... in Nigels 26 bouncing on my head exiting the trap at 102.. and then ambulance ride to hospital!!
