That would make sense.

Sorry for not being clear, my post was in reference to the link posted to a thread on lakecumberland.com and yes the locals I referred to are indeed the area residents that use the lake on a regular basis.

Keep going like we are and there will be a national water speed limit of 55mph just like driving your car on the highway.

As an outsider (from the UK) I struggle to understand how you can have strict rules on boat construction for race boats such as canopies etc and yet have unrestricted more powerful boats running in Poker Runs with no regulations at all? It seems that boats can drive though fleets of spectator boats without any penalty which from my point of view makes the whole thing lawless? If everyone is going to run flat out and race to the card stops then surely some sort of safety regulation concerning boat construction is the only thing that will save lives? Bob's idea of a pace helicopter would bring the boats down off the limit and work as well - I can't see any other workable solution or am I missing something?

We have pace boats that you are not supposed to pass until the flag drops when the local authorities tell them the coast is clear for departure. Those pace boats were passed on both sides well before the flag dropped. There is video evidence of this as well.

quote::::At the start no boat was supposed to pass the pace boat yet we had one boat immediately pass us then had 2 others pass us before where the KDFW wanted us to lower the flag. Its amazing some drivers cant comply with these simple rules. We've got them on video and they know who they are. There is absolutely no history of enforcement of the rules though!!"

These 3 Captains need to be reprimanded and barred from ANY poker runs for a good while. Now it is time to make a stand and let these captains, and all participants, know it is not to be tolerated. We all should be embarrassed if nothing happens to these captains. Might as well start now.

The people that live on the lake have had enough based on the little I read on their forum. Somebody needs to present a clear and concise plan on how to fix this mess because once they have a townhall meeting this event is duck soup.

If anybody paid attention to how Lake Winnipesaukee went down, read this. This is just one thing posted from a resident of Lake Cumberland:

"They don't want to have a clue either. They wave at you as they throw a wake in the back of the cove, wash small boats ashore and return in minutes with more of the same.

Their still shooting fireworks the size of small explosives next to my home terrorising my dog and shaking the ground and rattling my windows.

I endure it during the 4th, but this is September.

They come down here and treat us locals like a third world country.

I have many friends from up North and they are very respectful.

I think the world of them, so folks who have common sense, please excuse my rant, we all love you.

But seriously, there are the holiday folks who don't give a crap about anyone but themselves.

I just want to scream at them, pull your dam throttle all the way back in the idle zone!

Friggin idiots!"

From what I have read in the discussion and not having the opportunity to participate in any of your US events (Have been involved in Canadian pokerruns for over 20 years as a participant, sponsors rep and now a Insurance broker) I am not going to comment on how your events are run. What some of you are saying with regard to saftey controls for the events seems to be on the right track. I remember years ago that PRA had a saftey counsel meeting during the Miami boat show with event organizers and industry sponsors that discussed changes and controls that we all felt where in the best interest of the sport. I'm not sure what some of the elite group of participants in the events are thinking right now but maybe it is time to get the key people and organizers together again and discuss how everyone is going to move forward so these events can continue.

I read a couple of the comments about some participants not following the rules of the event and nothing being done by the event organizers. You as the voice of the elite group need to tell these organizers that they need to enforce the rules they have set out. I know they don't like to disqualify of ban people from the events for not following the rules some time as they seem to just look at the dollars aspect of there event. Maybe they need to appoint some of the participants to enforce the guidelines for them as an impartial group.

From an Insurance view the controls being placed on us as brokers are going to increase if the current trend continues and of course that will be in the way of higher premiums or possibly the insurance companies not wanting to provide coverage at all. I have already had some restrictions come done from the insurance companies (minor so far). But I can tell you they are watching what is happening out there.

A brief aside for a sec.

Yesterday at 10 30 am this thread had 23000 views
24 hours later it has 32500

When this community wants to discuss something they want to discuss it.

They shouldn't have to open 2 new threads and find a 4 year old one to tack onto to accomplish same either.
