To copy a boathull straight off and sell it as another brand is really ****ty... On the other hand, many boatmanufacturers today copy almost entire hulls and change a line here and a angle there and call it "a new model"... Legally I can't see the big difference... In Sweden (where I live...) we have laws to prevent things like this but technically it's quite easy to go around it... If a company designs a hull they can register the shape and get a "shape-patent" which means that it is illegal to any other company to produce a hull with the axact same shape but if they change the angle of two sprayrails the shape isn't exactly the same and then it is perfectly alright... Ok, they would still have to change the moulds a little bit, but they can reduce the costs for developing and testing... But is this unique for the boatindustry....? Don't think so... Doesn't the new BMW 3-series remind of Rovers new model... or was it the other way around....?
