Selling Used Parts
Whether its a hull, engine, drive or anything of substantial value (over $ 20K), how would you handle the following situation?
You advertise an item, show pictures of it, answer any question a potential buyer has honestly. They decide to buy the item based on all the above. Once the item is received, they decide its not what they want for some unknown reason other than its not brand new. Nothing is wrong, broke or misrepresented in anyway. They were informed and from the price knew it was several years old and was exactly as described. You have already packed, shipped the item, removed the item from advertised "for sale" sites, and told others that the item was sold. So what would you do? |
Depends on the item and more info. I would take it back with a serious "restocking fee". Just becouse of my costumer service principles, but.. if the buyer is a jerk? !!. I may think differently.
|
If it was sold using Paypal, you would need to take it back. The always side with the buyer. If it were me, I would charge for packaging and shipping and take the item back if it were not damaged.
In todays market, you may need to bit your lip to avoid an azz hole jumping on all the sites and bad mouthing you. |
Personal responsibility dicates that if someone buys something, it's theirs. Just because they don't like/want it they want to return it? It's a symptom of our entitlement and over consumption society. People shouldn't buy unless it's absolutely what they want. If they change their mind, it's theirs to deal with.
You can do your good deed by putting other prospective buyers in touch with the new owner. You face a little tougher situation because selling things is your business. But you have to draw a line. |
It really depends on each persons idea of good or like new. If some one tells me perfect or like new that is what I expect, Not what they think is like new etc...
On the other hand it's like Wahoo said.....It only takes one person to run you down everywhere. You'll spend more money trying to explain than it's worth. Give them their $$back and then bad mouth them!! |
I am beyond nice when it come to this. I give full return as long as they pay for shipping BACK, I eat the original shipping. Now I only give a few days to make their mind up, (either you want it or not).
That being said, I see in the classifieds here all the time, and many parts/motors/drives are waaaayy over priced to be used.:evilb: |

....Once the item is received, they decide its not what they want for some unknown reason other than its not brand new. Nothing is wrong, broke or misrepresented in anyway..... I would not take it back. It is the buyers responsibility to do their due diligence. I would NEVER buy anything above $20k without personally flying and seeing it and taking it and bringing back as soon as it is paid. I have traveled to Florida and back to shop for a watch once in order not to get screwed and that was for far less than $20k. This "bahh! bahhh! it's not what I tought I was buying" crap just promotes the "I am not responsible for my actions and contractual obligation" culture evolving very fast here. This then promotes legislative entities to create laws to protect us from ourselves eliminating even more personal responsabilties and fess up for your acts and contracts. I am sick of this crap when I commit to something I commit to it, when it goes wrong it is my fault, no one else. Even when a low life tries to scam me if he succeeds it is MY FAULT for getting duped no one else, the lowlife is a POS anyway it is for me to figure that out. This thinking has worked for me well up to now in my life and is the way to go. I sure as hell am not going to make lawyers richer trying to get blood out of rocks when I am the dope that got screwed due to my own incompetence! Move on and work on revenues! I fell better now! :drink: GL |
Just checked the results after that diatribe and it is 7-1 for they own it.
I knew there was a reason I liked the people here on this site!!! :D |
Appreciate the input. Hope more chime in!
