I am just tired of all the apache, cigarette, fountian bashing , I just don't get it, they must be just jealous I guess.
Actually, its starting to look the other way around!

ActiveThunderTodd 03-18-2002 06:32 PM

Hell my boat isn't perfect. Had to get a tear in the apholstery repaired. Have dings in the gel and the rub rail. I love Cigs and Apaches and Fountains and Outerlimits and most all the rest of the offshore go fast scene. I think most go fast boaters love to look at all the different boats that are out there when we go on a poker run. I love to walk up and down the docks and have guys show me there boats and see how proud they are of them. Just as I'm proud of mine. Hell if I had unlimited funds I would have to consider the new 50' OL as one of my favorites. I think its time we all stop being so petty about things being said and let each owner of their boat express thier loyalty and give thier personal experiences in getting their new machine if they like.

Time for everyone to let it go!! Lets Go Boating!!!:D

ssherman 03-18-2002 06:43 PM

CANT WE ALL JUST GET ALONG:D :D :D :D

Trust me no one wants to hear my whining avout the problems I had with my interior the first two years i had the boat but if I was buying a boat for the quality of the interior i would buy a mariah or something i bought mine to beat the **** out of and haul ass in rough water and in comparison to any other v-bottomin its size and power it has excelled everytime i have put it on the water and 25k later my interior is finally how i want it and wait until you guys see it:p :D

thunderdan 03-18-2002 07:03 PM

I will add that while I have not owned at 37 active thunder, this is my second AT so I do have some experience with the quality of the boats as well as the people that build them.

As I said before, lets all just get along...:D :D :D

Jassman 03-18-2002 07:19 PM

THUNDER DAN, did you get paid for that THUNDER post:p :D :p

EndlessSummer 03-18-2002 07:19 PM

Thunderdan - why get along? All these people who are complaining (or criticizing) are indeed jealous. They either do not own a boat or own some "old" antiquated boat. They just can't stand it when success passes them up. Most professionals understand that the top builders offer quality and performance, and each builder has their following for a reason.
CIGARETTE - heritage
OUTERLIMITS - big power and wild looks
THUNDER - hi performance
APACHE - rough water perdormance
FOUNTAIN - even though a production boat, speed

thunderdan 03-18-2002 07:38 PM

Endless-

It is simple because I am happy with my boat as well as everyone else is happy(well almost everyone) with theirs. It is a matter of choice, and simply put Life is too short to argue or banter about the TOYS that we have. We should all just be happy that we are lucky enough to afford such a great activity.

Jassman,

nope, just wanted people to know that I indeed have owned an Active Thunder, as a matter of fact it was still in my driveway until two weeks ago when the new lucky owner took delivery.:D :D

www.gone 03-18-2002 08:41 PM

Personally I don't think there's any thing wrong with a little friendly competition as long as you don't cross the line. When it gets to bashing a certian brand or individual is when it crosses the line. Every one is entitled to thier own opinion and I think this board allows people to express them and if the manufactures have thier eyes on this board these opinions could prove very valuable as a barometer to what current and future customers want.

Sean 03-18-2002 08:52 PM

Well, I can see this stirred up some emotions and a lot of chest thumping by AT owners...and in case anyone is interested, I have nothing against AT and I'm sre they build a fine boat, but some of you AT owners just don't get it.

When a guy asks for an opinion on a boat inevitably an AT owner comes on and tells the guy to go look at AT---no matter what the guy is looking at---it could be a 36 Skater and someone will say "go look at AT, man, they're the best!" As I said, offer an opinion which is relavant to the subject matter and it has some credibility, but when you tell a guy looking to spend 40K on a used boat to go visit the AT factory, your just trying to get AT some free press for whatever reason...

That's all I'm gonna say on that matter, I'm over it.

As for Mrs. Endless Summer, I assume you are referring to my "antiquated" 6700lb 1975 Cigarette 28SS which by the way runs 67mph on radar and is only turning 4600rpms(it's overpropped).

Compare that to some of today's boats and I think you'll find that this antiquated boat will hang with anything built today with similar power. Maybe jafo(sorry dude) or AT can tell us how their 28 runs with the same 350 mag MPIs I am running.

Any takers? Keep talking smack and I'll drop in a set of ProChargers and come after you 32 AT owners.:D:D:D

ScreaminDemon 03-18-2002 09:03 PM

Here come the excuses, and excuse number one is: OVERPROPPED! Can't find the right set up anywhere, huh? Or do you prefer to run around with an over-propped set so if someone challenges you, you ALREADY have your excuse?

Maybe jafo(sorry dude) or AT can tell us how their 28 runs with the same 350 mag MPIs I am running.
much FASTER THAN YOUR 67!

Any takers? Keep talking smack and I'll drop in a set of ProChargers and come after you 32 AT owners.
DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY OR EMBARRAS YOURSELF.

ActiveThunderTodd 03-18-2002 09:05 PM

geez Sean you really can't let this go....if any one on this thread other than worldchump is making this into a name calling thing it is certainly YOU. We are loyal and some more vocal than others. Why is that wrong. I haven't seen AT owners post on checking out AT if they want something that doesn't fit. The other thread is Titled 38 Cig or 37 AT. Opinions were given and you don't like it. Nobody said that Cigarette owners can't go there and tell how great their boats are or how great the service is they get from the factory. In fact I'm sure the originator would love to hear from them. You started this one by bashing AT owners. Didn't see AT owners for expressing their opinions. All we heard is crying about all you hear from is AT owners. Maybe that speaks for itself. And BTW the 28' AT runs a solid 72 mph with t-350 . Handles the rough stuff very very well. And I think it would be alot of fun to run with you in Lake Mich when you get those procharges. I'm sure we'd have a ton of fun.

PhantomChaos 03-18-2002 09:10 PM

I don't like Cig's since DMAN has one.
I don't like AT's since Shane has one.

:D :D :D :D :D :D

Sean 03-18-2002 09:15 PM

Hey demon...I don't think i was talkin to you, was I???

I'm not makin any excuses...I'll get the props labbed an be right at 70. Not bad for a 27 year old boat! And with all the "innovations" Todd, your telling me the 28 AT runs 72??? Talk about embarrasing!

C'mon guys I was kiddin about the Prochargers and as I said..I'm over it, just tryin to have some fun now and get you guys all bent out of shape(I see it's workin!) Besides, I'm sure Pat is loving the free publicity I'm giving him now.

:p :p

Jassman 03-18-2002 09:24 PM

I'm sure he'd luv ya more, if you bought a boat:p , Lifes too short, good luck to you Sean, take care:D

Great perspective, not only with AT but all manufacturers. Maybe this industry hasn't advanced as much as the boating hornblowers would have us believe.

ScreaminDemon 03-18-2002 09:36 PM

28 foot cigarette, no freeboard, twin smallblocks, maybe 70, if light on fuel, go with the wind and downstream!
28 foot Active Thunder, high freeboard, twin smallblocks, OVER 72 mph, with fuel and against the wind!
now, what were you saying was embarassing?

EndlessSummer 03-18-2002 09:47 PM

sean, what is your problem? Why do you keep diving into this thing? Can't you just drop it?

Sean 03-18-2002 09:48 PM

demon...you've got issues man...c'mon

do the math---how much does that 28' AT weigh? How about 4600lbs. How much does my ole 28 weigh? 6700lbs(yes, I weighed it)...

So, with all the advancement in the 27 years since my boat was built and with a weight savings of 2100lbs, the best you can do is 2mph???

You can lead a horse to water...

:D :D

Sean 03-18-2002 09:51 PM

Summer,

Now maybe you can see my point...post after post of mindless AT ramblings...gets annoying doesn't it?

I can keep going...where's that Kryptonite thread...I'm sure someone has suggested an AT by now...

;) ;)

ScreaminDemon 03-18-2002 09:55 PM

so thats your agenda! to find anyone and everyone who has posted something positive about AT and go after them, man, you are messed up, but then, you're from NY right?

Sean 03-18-2002 10:03 PM

demon, that was a joke...sorry you have no sense of humor. I guess since I stumped you with the math problem you had nothing else to go on...

BTW, were you one of the ones having a problem with the ballots in the last presidential election???

I thought so.

WesSmith 03-18-2002 10:06 PM

Hey Demon,

My buddy Sean doesn't need any help from me but if you have a problem with NY'ers then you insult a whole bunch of us OSO members and are gonna start something here that will serve no purpose.

I won't take this any further but NY and its residents have taken enough shots lately.

Drop it and stick to the subject............

thunderdan 03-18-2002 10:07 PM

Lets take it easy on the New York comments Screamin, I was born and grew up in New York.:D :D

Back4More 03-18-2002 10:31 PM

Oh Yeah!...Well my dad can beatup your dad!

jafo 03-18-2002 10:40 PM

I didn't ask to get pulled into this discussion- you can see I'm not a big talker on this board, just like to inhale the info most of the time!;)
I looked at a lot of boats before recently buying my 28 AT- Cigs (Bullets), Pantera, Powerplay, Sonic, and the new Formula 292 (I still have my old twin SBC powered Formula 242LS).
Although I don't have a lot of seat time in the boat yet, I did have it in some very rough water a few weekends ago and was very pleased with its capabilities. I have yet to make a top-speed GPS run myself, but the boat has run 74 prior to my ownership. I am not sure of its exact weight (it has twin 70 gal. tanks), but it definitely weighs less than my 242LS, which is similar in weight to Seans' Cig! I like SBC reliability, efficiency, and the balance they give to a 28 foot boat (of any mfg.) I will be installing Whipple Chargers to this boat in the future.

Sean, please show a little patience with all the AT talk as of late here. It has been whipped into a fever pitch due to many different reasons, all as valid as everyones' simple passion in their choice of boat. Active Thunder got a lot if interest during the recent Miami show. Although AT did not attend it, a lot of people took the time to take factory tours. If you couple this with the passion of a few who are spending a lot of hard-earned dollars to fulfill a dream with questions from OSO members who are just plain curious about a new up-and-coming custom manufacturer, you will wind up with a lot of posts!

You have a great looking boat- one that took a lot of patience and money to get it where it is today. Cig has long been a bench-mark in offshore boats. Those on the outside call all boats of this style `those cigar boats' or something like that, similar to everyone thinking every private jet is a Lear! There are other manufacturers in both and all is a matter of choice.

Sometime it would be nice to line up some custom 28's - your Cig, my AT (we'll get crap for the small-blocks:rolleyes: ), an Apache, a Powerplay, Pantera etc. Every driver will have the best boat in his eyes, but what a pretty picture it would make! I'd be happy to be a part of it.:)
Jim

Sean 03-18-2002 10:48 PM

Jim,

I didn't mean to drag you into this...I saw the mention of your boat and used it as an example. I know alot of thought and homework went into your purchase. I in no way meant to bash your boat and if you took offense, I apologize. I think the small block is seeing a great resurgence(sp) in popularity lately and it's good to see some people taking advantage of it. People looked at me like I had two heads when I put those 350 mags in mine, but I've been thrilled with them.

Best of luck with your boat. It's a great looking AT.

Sean

jafo 03-18-2002 10:59 PM

Sean- No offense taken, and thanks for the compliment. I know we'll have a lot of fun with it! Good luck with the sale of your boat; I know you want a bigger Cig.
For now...... you ProCharge, I'll Whipple, and we go visit ThunderDan! :D

ActiveThunderTodd 03-19-2002 12:25 AM

Hey jafo,

Jim you're a class act. We'll have to take some trips together this summer. We can go watch the drags on Thur nights at Blarney Island or head to Lake Geneva for a day or go to the big Lake some weekend. See Ya later.

Todd

audacity 03-19-2002 10:06 AM

hey,,,you guys gona fire this one back up today...i had a lot of fun yesterday!!!

dyno 03-19-2002 01:40 PM

well I think the add still stinks....I dont care if the guy owns 20 Skaters I dont think he can compare a newer company(that has all kinds of competitors) to the company that is the undisputed leader in cats!!!and has been forever...my.02 and I'd trade my Sonic for a Cig any day. Buy the best boat you can afford and run it like you stole it,and may the best boat win....

audacity 03-19-2002 01:50 PM

now would that be reckless or just fast?...fast and reckless?...win what???....is there a race of some sort??

I know I am opening up to some bad replies here, but we all have input, so here is mine...
We ran into an AT this last saturday (3 footers, confused seas 20 K winds, SCAdvisory 2 hours later) off the east coast of VA with another OSO board member, and I will agree, they do "fly" and they are very fast on long runs!

You guys say they "fly and land flat and smooth,"
I sure hope so!!!! It was not in the water much, what do they weigh per size?

The Donzi made up most of the lost speed advantage while actually "in" the water while the AT flew... Hard to make head way in the air! :D
Props need water.
We lost the speed battle overall but, sometimes comfort and ride comes with a sacrifice.

I will say AT's have some very nice graphics. Very impressive.
And almost no two look alike.
I would hope to hear from AT "owners." I think they are over a bit over rated, and yes if I wanted one I could afford it.
So be nice... Just my thoughts, AT's seem to be very nice boats, loved by their owners.... like the rest of us "owners" not wannabees with opinions or test rides........
There are many great boats out there, Cig, Fountain, etc... but who fly's without wings sparked my post.
Bryan

Who said reckless?!!!!

In my always humble opinion, I feel the AT ranks up there with the PowerQuest..... :D :p

BryanTuvell 03-19-2002 10:46 PM

RECKLESS, you are the man, SUNSATION is lucky to have you onboard. Your rig is very strong! Lots of "Bay days" to come, tomorrow is the 1st day of spring!

Enjoyed the company this past Saturday, and so did the DONZI,
Hell we didn't even discuss the off coast gig while beached up with the club, so I metioned it here.
Take care and we'll see ya soon.

Safe boating to all.....
Bryan

Reckless32 03-19-2002 10:57 PM

First day of spring all right. It's offcially here and the weather goes tits up. Weekend forecast sucks....Hey, them Thunders got heat cause we've got the 10-12's going on right now...:D

bob 03-19-2002 11:26 PM

Excuse my ignorance here but I guess the AT camp feels they have a technologically advanced product? What materials is the AT laid up with? Have there been any successfull AT race boats (30+ feet) over the last few years? What do they look like after a couple seasons and a few trips to Key West races? I did take a quick look at the APBA and SBI results and I didn't see any mentioned in the results. It would seem to me that if this hull is that far superior than the competition then some of the teams will want to make the switch to AT? From my perspective, they probably are a good boat and run well. ButI think the jury is still out concerning their overall success as a boat. At this stage of the game they do appear to be a very good high performance boat. But...they haven't quite earned the right to be compared to the proven leaders in the performance boating world. And until they start chalking up wins at the worlds they probably won't have the opportunity to gain the right. Just an opinion.

audacity 03-20-2002 12:36 AM

u guys kill me!.......look a RACE boat is nothing like a production boat!!! sometimes they are not even made at the same place! sorry to hear about that guys lack of skill running that AT! and if you want to see an AT that has been run REAL hard take a look at the parts list that has failed on mine....NOT the hull hold'n 'em either!

i've had the pleasure to bust a lot of boats up in big water...most don't even have the capabilities to even go run fast in the big water...

i'm not a "loyal" AT owner....i'm not loyal to the race boat i'm in either(scarab)......both world class and are great for what they do....and never confuse the two.

Reckless32 03-20-2002 12:37 AM

I don't doubt these boats are a great value and a great offshore boat. But after so many months of having a free ride on this board with all the superiority chatter it's about time the product has it's turn in the roaster as all others have had.

I actually don't know squat about'em except what the few current and the constantly awaiting owners have hawked on here. In all honesty to me they'll remain nothing more than an OSO board mystery boat until I actually see one and start reading more about them....

But! All that being said, enthusiasm for one's purchase choice is an expected thing or otherwise why would you have bought it???

Rick
