Default Off the wall question... Miami to Bimini....

I was showing/telling a buddy of mine about the Gino challenge and showed him the youtube video of the mercedes boat...

I was telling him about the run to Bimini and back of 106 miles... Times of 43 minutes I believe I read?!?!?!?

Anyways, he asked approx. how much fuel is burned in the run to Bimini and Back to Miami?? And I didnt really have an answer as I do not have the slightest clue as to what kinda of MPG these motors see at near WOT. I Guesstimated somewhere in the 150-200 gallon range for the run...

Am I anywhere near close???

Like I said, kind of an off the wall topic, kinda would like to know...

Thanks for any replys.

PS. Sorry to hear about the bad luck Gino, that was still one hell of a run...

Gonna go out on a limb an say prolly double that amount, my twin 502 efi's burn 50-55 gallons n hour I believe @ WOT, cruising speeds I'd prolly burn a whole tank in a 100+ mile run holds 120 gallons

Cool

The boat that won this year had twin turbines. The name of the boat was Aqua Mania. Not sure how much fuel turbines burn. I'm sure someone on here does.

We ran the race with 4 Mercury 350 Verado engines on the 36 Deep Impact. 53 miles each way, average of 74.999 miles per hour and used 46 gallons on each motor.

Thats outboards though

The BIMINI OCEAN race had new records set in the 1st ever TURBINE Class ,Aqua-Mania G-3 ;43minutes 43 secon! The Cat Open Class {Piston Class } had a new record set by Cat agious,George Kovacs & Johnny Tomlinson @ 53 minutes 07 seconds !
The Cat Light class was set another new record by AMSOIL ,Bob teaque & Paul Whitier.
The Piston motors burn approx; 1- 1.5 gallons per mile !
Remeber that records are always meant to be broken ....

if I remember right, caveman with 2x 1450 turbines burs 2 gallons a min per motor, aquamania's are 1850's so will burn a little more..so you are probably taking 5~6 gpm.. figuring 5.5 gpm x44 min = 242 gallons/ 103 miles = 0.43 mpg though I prolly f'd up the math somewhere...all figures are assumptions...
