Dude - that would be a pain in the ass. All new transom, all new motor mounting locations, fair amount of new rigging, etc.... and then you still don't know what it will run like.

Advantages - no drive failures.

Disadvantages - just about everything else....

There is a guy at my old marina that either 3's or 3A's, I'm not sure, swinging some big cleavers. I think he was running high-70's low 80's maybe?

You'd be better off going with Arnesons. If you have Bravos now, the Arneson 6 or 7 would bolt right on. You'd have a rooster like a 6 too. ;)

Didnt that era of formula boats have a kaama as an option?

amazing1 08-14-2009 08:01 PM

Why not. Yes the drives would out price the boat. I am looking to build my motors to 800hp each. I now have TRS drives the bravo's are not strong enough for 800hp. Konrads are an option but don't think they will survive either in this heavy boat.3a drives I beleive run deeper than a TRS I don't think any major benefit. and I like this mstyle of boat. I am already into it for more than it is worth. on my third set of motors. I am looking to enjoy it for the rest of this season and work on getting the rest of the parts for the motors and upgrade drives to handle the power I want.:evilb:

CUda had a Kaama Formula. Might have been a 302 though.

I was considering the #6 wet sump drives. I have seen a few for resonable money.:evilb:

5's would be my pick for 800 hp and they are shorter than 3's

-I've had Konrad drives on my heavy old Top Gun since Feb 2004. 750 HP blower motors, 380 hrs, countless poker runs, zero issues. They work very well for these older boats.

I agree.. there is one application like this but on a 382. Once figured out, this is the way to go. Light weight, handles around the docks well, takes about 1-2 more seconds to plane vs the bravo, but can handle 400hp more than the bravo's....and wait there's more...over the long haul less expensive, ease of mind knowing that the probability of failure has diminished.
