Single-engine Cat ?
Let`s discuss single engine cats. I`m thinking in the 25-30 ft range.
Who makes a hull of this description ? Which ones are good / who to stay away from ? Lastly .... anyone know of an affordable project / hull ? |
Older project cat in that size....eliminator, AO, or HTM....?
|
depends what you're looking for...... I'm assuming you're looking used? I have two ..... a 26 awesome and a new 29 force canopy with an arneson that has had some delays hitting the water.
They are two very very different boats. The force is a west coast custom and the attention to detail shows. It is a canopy and will do a good job of keeping you out of the wind. Whereas the awesome doesn't have one, which is nice sometimes too. The attention to detail on the awesome is not even close. It however is built like a tank. It is not that light and not 100% about speed. It actually has a little fridge, porto potty and a small birth. It has a ton of storage underdeck as well. So with that said the awesome won't be as quick as the force. It is also a true tunnel whereas the force has a center sponson. I could go on and on but you need to determine what features are important to you and how you will be using the boat. That will eliminate a bunch right off the bat. PS.....If you're looking for a hull project i would definatley take a close look at a Magic Hull (a west coast custom). If you haven't heard of them they recently went bankrupt and this company has all of their hulls....they have a ton of them and they are going for very good prices. You could be on the water with a brand new boat for an awesome price. And I personally like their boats. http://www.lbys.com/site_page_12297/ |

In order:
28 Skater - twin OB Distant second 24 Skater - twin OB 25 Talon - twin OB 26 Eliminator - I/O with stand off box 26 DCB - Twin OB or I/O If you go any bigger, you will need big power to move them and break drives often. |

A 24 or 28 Skater are not cheap to insure. Quite the opposite. They are very expensive to insure.
There a lot of Eliminator Daytona's out there with single I/O power that would make a nice project. |
25 Talon

I am very happy with my HTM. Largest cockpit and useable cabin of any cat near its size. Cabin with room to change and a portapotti was a must and its the only cat in that size range that fits those requirements

Didnt U Just Buy That 25 Daytona?

Wow,, how did we go from an "affordable project/hull" to
an $85k boat?????? I know affordable is relative depending on how big a baller you are but wow! :D Frank, these guys don`t know how broke, or should I say "how much of a tight wad" I am. When I say "affordable project", I mean CHEAP. Thanks for the replies guys. I am studying my options now. Gotta run it by my "financial advisor" ( WIFE ) for approval. |
The warlock you saw last weekend will go in the high 40's. Dependable 100mph cat with a porta-potti! I'll see you again on Labor Day. I'll give you a ride if you are interested!

Before Wayne Booth shot down operations of Cougar boats in Salmon Arm BC , he had a brand new 27 MTR fully rigged on a trailer minus engine. It was offered at 37K cdn. I merely suggested it's a very good cat and one could be found as a project , or I may suggest to buy a hull only from the new builder of Cougar boats USA. |
25' Eliminator Daytona with new 640 ci bbc runs well over 100 mph on pump gas and I will sell it to you sitting on an Extreme trailer "cheap"

That`s sounds like a good deal for your boat. I`m really thinking single-engine though. I would love to find a good project. It seems that I wind up redoing every boat I own anyway, so might as well buy one cheap to start with. |
Hotstang46 I just checked out that website on the magic boats for sale Wow they have alot them for sale Do you know anything about these hulls? Like are they cored? Do they have a pod? Any body know how they perform? From the pictures they look like they have interior too just no power looks like a sweet deal Thanks for any info Keith

Helluva deal right there. How does that carb work around the docks? Does it keep the motor lit when you shift? I had a 1050 Dom on my boat and it really sucked trying to dock.
