As big as it is, a modest tweaking of existing 200+ mph hull concepts would seem to be more appropriate than the drastic cut back of wing area in the Phenonmenon... This is more like a 400+ mph design than 250. Any body have any Concorde jet engines laying around?

I agree with you on the design. Word is it ran very wet and bow down until mid 100's or so. I saw the boat when it was being laid up and I find it hard to believe the 30,000# stated above. The cockpit design is supposed to separate from the hull in the event of a crash with full on board oxygen in the cockpit. I was impressed with the thought that went into the safety aspect of the boat as well as the quality of the construction. One of the early problems was the propellers hitting on hard acceleration due to transom flex. 12,000hp and a composite transom turned out to be a bad combination. The transom had to be redone in some exotic wood to stiffen it enough. I don't remember what wood they used when it was redone.

What a shame ,Big Al would never have let this happen to his dream.

"Phenomenon - Merriam-Webster Online

www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/phenomenon‎

something (such as an interesting fact or event) that can be observed and studied and that typically is unusual or difficult to understand or explain fully."

That about covers it :drink:

So now that some time has past.....what do you think someone could do with this thing? Top off? Diesels in? 900g is probably not going to happen but it surely must have some future.

Put a hot tub in the open bow area and turn it into a party boat .... :)

im sure its in here somewhere but how many times has it actually been run and what were the results? Also who built the hull and who rigged it?

I would first like to know if they got the flex out of the transom so that those Hering Props don't hit each other....

We all miss Al Copeland, but I think we all also would like to know what happened a dn didn't happen on this project.

I don't believe skater had anything to do with this boat. If I remember correctly it was a doug wright design built in house by Al's people.
