Default New Magazine Idea

So I think boating needs a new magazine and I wondered what everyone else thought.

I am thinking something popular hot rodding or Hot Rod except way more possibilities. Here are the topics it could cover.

Boat shows
Maybe a poker run schedule
Rebuilding old boats(obviously the market is soft now and one mans debt is another mans dream(or debt) I mean articles like oh we found this old (not really that old maybe 10 years) whatever for a steal now lets do some budget powerplants and see if we can build a reliable offshore on a budget (words that don't probably go hand in hand)

could do a yearly engine roundup like has been discussed with a dyno and a bunch of engines one test boat(company owned of course)First they are dynoed then they areput in the test boat and run them so many miles same boat same dyno similar temperatures etc. (yes this could take weeks but that is why it is done once a year.

A section for bolt on upgrades pullys, ecms etc.

could have like a readers rides or meet the owners section.

Maybe a budget build off see who can find the best deal and get the most performance for the least amout of money.

Obviously this would include bigger boats 30-50ft but it could also have a lake boat section 20-30ft

And obviously tons of pictures.

I just think the current offerings for this stuff although good for some people miss an entirely different crowd One magazine imparticlular the only reason I glance at it in stores is to see if there are any over the top boats in there.

What I seem to gather and correct me if I'm wrong is that people are more apt to keep there boat or buy a used boat in this market. There are obviously some great deals out there to be had for used stuff deals that may be great to someone with mechanical aptitude and time but maybe not so great to someone without this stuff.

And I think as people buy these deals and make decsions about engine builders parts suppliers etc they need decsions based on a level playing field.

Also this could help a used market that is very soft which in turn would help the new market as people unloaded used boats.

Imagine you have an individual who loves to go fast but realizes there is a speed limit on the road he comes across this magazine and says to himself hey I love to work on cars and know how but boats may be a different story. Hey I can learn something here.

Jim you do not know me I spoke with you once maybe twice. I have added another post on the other site to say that most of what I said was hearsay. Just leave it alone your life is an open book and many people around these sights know you.

And on my idea if you feel that because others went broke so this is a bad idea that would be like saying everyone should quit making cars it is going by the wayside because GM and Chrysler had to file BR. Saying the idea is bad is fine but the reasoning in illogical.

Do you think it would bring new people to the sport or bring people back. Do you feel that there has been anything out there that does what I mentioned already. A couple more questions

now you only spoke to me once, you said you know me, Scott has never heard of you so your a bold face liar. your identity will be found out and you will have to explain why you are posting such bs about a reputable business man. why would they quit making cars when the government bails them out. Call Robbie at RPM magazine, he had your exact plan, he can give some some insight into the potential of a boating magazine, and you are illogical.

Hey db, I like your idea also, I have even told my wife that I should present something like you stated to a show on SPEED tv. We do trucks, cars, motorcycles, etc. Why not boats?!! I think some people feel like boat work has some "black magic" stuff going on sometimes. It is all pretty simple if people could see some of it....AND vice versa some stuff people have NO idea what it takes to fix or repair certain things on boats. my .02 AND speaking of that HIGH end magazine, I'm kinda tired at looking at $500,000+ boats that 98% of the people can't afford.
