What's the market for a 51' OL?
A long-time boating buddie is selling his 51' OL because he's having a new one built.
Anyone know what the market is like for a used 51'? Any advice is appreciated; http://www.offshoreonly.com/classifi...o32836-en.html |
My friend has one that has been sitting at $350k for a while. And he is getting ready to drop it further.

Sweet looking boat, I just wonder if the Bravo 1's are going to hurt the resale? That's alot of boat to push with XR's.
Good luck to him in this economy. Dean |
The bravo's are going to kill the boat.
51 foot and xr's have a chance of breaking any given weekend on 3-4 foot waves. |

51 foot and xr's have a chance of breaking any given weekend on 3-4 foot waves. It's a reliable boat...we go boating together almost every weekend in the summers.:ernaehrung004: |
Beautiful boat! I don't shop for 51 OL's very often :lolhit:, but the price seems a bit high, given the relatively mild power, Bravo's and in particular, this market. I think if he really wants to move it, the price will have to come down... all that being said, I wish I had $400K lying around! :drink:

At this price point, if someone were seriously interested in buying the boat I suggest all interested buyers should call for more information. |
I will never be able to drop that kind of cash on a boat but it has got to be tuff when this boat has not sold in six months

In my opinion everything is fine, with the exception of the economy. to me any outerlimits is custom for the original owner, thats the hardest bridge to cross. :) |
Call Courtney over at Lake Cumberland Marine I think the have a few Outer limit boats there they did last time I was in there

When was this boat built? Did Merc offer the 850s and 1075s then? If so it's hard to believe he ordered it like it is.

The boat was built in 2005, and the customer chose this power over the 850's & 1075's. This is a great running boat and has been maintained with an open checkbook. The tripple 600's are a great packsge, the boat is still a 100 mph + boat, cruises well, great fuel economy, handels around the dock well, and eats the big water.
For the others....the owner of this boat was also the previous owner of "Saks" boat. You know, the one with the Gellners that everyone loved so much! ;) When he had the boat it had stock575sci's and loved it...also no drive issues with that boat and it was something like 1500-2000 lbs heavier than this one which is Epoxy...:drink: Some pictures from over the years in the following albums where we ran togther:coolcowboy:;http://www.lucidideefastboats.com/20...tanfunrun.html http://www.lucidideefastboats.com/2007freeportrun.html |
Yep, have been on quite a few runs with this 51 and it is a awesome boat! The owner does maintain it with an open checkbook as stated before. I believe it has also won best looking boat before at some PRA events! You cant beat a 51 Outerlimits for room, speed, and ride.

There is a 2009 Cig 42X w/ 700's in Powerboat that has an asking price of $399K. For 400K or so, that would be the boat to have in that price range.
|
Id rather have the big 51. Dont get me wrong the 42X is a very nice boat. There's two that I boat with. Why is that Cig so cheap being an 09??

The ad says that the owner has ordered a new boat. It certainly seems priced to sell.

There's nothing wrong with a repo boat. A friend of mine picked up a 98 353 Formula for 20K. you could eat off it because it was sooo clean! A 51 is a BIG boat with big maintenence and therefore people at this stage would rather spend less and have it personalized to their taste. For 350-400K you can build a really nice one off 32-40 and have it EXACTLY the way you want it. just my .02

Well as long as the drives hold up it's all good. I love the pastel colors too. i would have chosen different colors in the cabin though. Speaking about the cabin, I had the great opportunity to go aboard John Haggin's OL and I was shocked by how low it was. I'm only 5'10" and I had to bend over to walk. On the other end of that scale is of course the Black Thunder. :D

I like this boat - triple bravos are a feature to me. Triples distribute the load evenly and rarely nuke drives. I will give you a call on this boat.

LP This is his 2nd 51' OL, before that he had a 45' Sonic and before that a 35' Sonic... He bought the OL's after I left the marina so unfortunately I didn't get to work on the OL's myself but I know the guys who have! |

I don't think there's anyting wrong with repo boats either, however it's a risk and I've seen some go well and others not so well. This particular boat has no "history" or "karma". :) |
[QUOTE=Panther;3059709]Don't get me wrong, I'm partial to Cigs, but the 42X and the 51' OL just don't compare.... Maybe the Marauder, even then it's a totally different boat...
Agreed 2 different boats. However, my point is that for $400K or so, you could have a almost new 700 42 Cig, maybe even with warrantys. Just doing price comparisons. |

I could buy a brand new 3 bedroom house for $450K here in Middletown or a used 4 bedroom house for $500K but lets say I have 3 kids so I'll want a 4 bedroom house so each kid has a room to sleep in! :lolhit: If someone's in the market for a 51' OL, please take the time to look this one over. Two thing I've learned in sales is the only stupid question is the one not asked (in this case maybe it's the posted price) and your job starts when the client says no. |

I am excited to see a boat in that league with reasonable power.
I know it might not be a top flight boat from a power standpoint, and I know that it might be a hard resale but speaking from an ownership standpoint - For a guy like me it would be nice to know that you could put reasonable power in a boat like that with reasonable drives and not have that monkey sitting on your back that if you blow a 1075 or some exotic non-merc power that you aren't out 50k, and that you don't have $80k of #6 drives hanging off the transom. It makes the idea of owning one of those boats somewhat palatable to me, and a reasonable goal to strive for in the future. I could never afford a 300k boat and 50k/year in Maintanenance, but maybe one day a 300k boat and 10k/year in Maintenance. Disclaimer - the above logic comes from a guy who lives paycheck to paycheck so take it for what it's worth. |
Frank you keep making babys youll need that 50:drink:

He's an entreprenuer and works his butt off Mon-Fri. and come Sat/Sun. he always wanted to be able to get in the boat and go.... This boat has fulfilled his needs and then some. :coolcowboy: |

That's why he got it that way! He's the type of boater that likes to boat every weekend and take long trips.... Reliability was key and the lack of headaches was also key.... All his boats have had stock merc power... The 45' Sonic with triples had 500 efi's, the first 51' 575sci's and now this one with 600sci's.

I think it's a good choice for power for a tripp boat, I would go bigger on twins with 6's but it's almost a law that an OL go over 90 mph. I am in the market but it's still a little out of my range, I want to see the one for thats listed for 350k and getting ready to drop more. I see none out there for that low and the only one I see that I think it could be is that silver and purple one at LCM and that boat is fugly, and I like silver and purple plus any 50+ foot boat with a cabin like that should have a full padded hatch. So tack on another 10-20k to change the cockpit and hatch and some other things.......

Yeah, like me, he is not the most mechanically inclined guy so every little thing that went wrong with the boat needed "professional" help. And it was his first boat. Obviously he wasn't thrilled to miss out on most of last year's season while the boat was being fixed. He is looking for something a little more simple and less loud since he just bought a house on Cape Cod and doesn't want to scare his new neighbors.
