I don't prop my boat for a certain cruise range or RPM b/c I don't boat like that. Here in NC on LKN I blast to where I'm going & I'm done or I cruise around the lake in the 60-70 mph range but it doesn't amount to more than a 15-20 min ride so I don't bother to prop for cruising speeds. The remainder of my boating is poker runs which is where I concentrate more of my test & tune efforts. My boat's sweet spot is 100-110mph. It's settled in & on rails & extremely comfortable like a Sunday drive in a 7 series BMW.
B/C I upgraded to the INDY drives my options increased. I basically try to balance top speed w/ acceleration & the fact that I don't run my boat on 1/4 tank w/ 2 on board for top speed #'s on a regular basis.
I start where Hering suggests then keep trying to get more top speed always conducting my testing w/ a 1/4 tank 1 - 2 on board recording top speed & RPM. When I get to the point I can't spin the bigger pitch to within 100-150 of redline I go back to a set of props that can. Then evaluate my ability to get on plane as well as roll on acceleration w/ those props w/o tucking the drives in or using any tab as a crutch. Once I zero in on a prop that can get me on plane, has good roll on performance & can tag the limiters in the right conditions I know that I'm pretty much there b/c when I add fuel or passengers I won't be on the limiters anymore & I still can use the drives & tab to get on plane IF NECESSARY. At this point I can drop 1 pitch size or work w/ Hering to trim some diameter or cup instead. I allow them to make the suggestions based on the boating I do. I end up w/ a very well rounded set of props this way. The ILMOR's are fuel efficient as it is & cruising probably only makes up 15-20% of my boating.
I believe I'll end up w/ a pr of Hering 5 blade 37 or 38 SCL's w/ my 1.50 drives.
Jeff Johnston or Ben Robertson at Hering can assist you as could Ben Robertson Sr. at BAR Marine here in SC. He is a racer and knows the ILMOR & Fountain product very well.
Hope this helps and good luck.

JAX PR start, Catz Azz leggs me on the Starboard 30 secs in then Albert vaporizes me on the port 1 min in.

Nice video Mike. That shows how far Albert had to go to catch R&C with the lead they had on your right early on in the vid.

Agreed b/c I probably started 200yds ahead of Albert & it took him a while to catch me. In the end & depending on how far the leg is to the 1st card stop is I think the quicker accelerating boat will out perform many of the faster overall topend boats. Thats the route I'm going back too anyway.

I'll be in VA at Jammin on the James the weekend of the July 9th, 10th but if you are here another week I'm sure we can catch up. Keep me posted.
