Skater 30 / ILMOR Indy Upgrade
#371
What are you doing the weekend of July 9th??
Uppers are back at Ilmor being converted back to 1.50 & lowers went to Wilson Marine for some massaging & blueprinting. I've heard alot of good things about their work so I'm looking forward to the finished product.
Last on the list will be the prop testing. Hoping to have the opportunity to test Hering's Ti props back to back w/ the SS.

I've met them several times, great people, professional & customer service oriiented just like ILMOR.
As previously stated I'm not doing it for the MPH gain (some obviously gain more than others depending on the OEM casting & boat its on) but more so the stability & ride quality improvement. They say the return on investment is even greater on 100mph+ boats so I'm anxious to see. Ben Robertson @ BAR Marine will complete the install once the drives return. He has quite a bit of seat time in my boat already running several ILMOR Indy Drive configurations to date. Being a racer he seems to be able to pick up on the most sublte changes both positive or negative.

Their work is fantastic. I kind of wish you had a bit more seat time (recently) with the 1.50's and standard lowers. You provide us with second-to-none feedback. Very anxious to see the results and comparisons......
I was really hoping you could make Ron's Flight Club Skaterfest and you and Stainless Steve could run together but i understand a little ol company might need you to be there once in awhile.

ILMOR Indy Drive Lowers returned from Wilson Custom Marine yesterday where they had been sent for profiling / blueprinting following the JAX PR. You can see that they've done a nice job blending all the surface transitions on the sides, tapered & sharpened the leading edge and really squared off the all the corners of the trailing edge.
ILMOR is reassembling the drives w/ a 1.50 ratio the way Peter Hledin spec'd them originally. Testing the boat w/ both 1.50 & 1.39 ratios has validated that 1.50 is the way to go based on on my overall package & the way I boat (30' Cat w/ Twin ILMOR 7-10's, Lakes, Rivers & ICW)
The overall project has been a time consuming one but none of it would have happened w/o the tech support & services of ILMOR Marine, Bar Marine Group & Hering Propellers.
ILMOR has made several drive configurations available to me for testing that encompassed the various ratios & different nose cones all of which have helped me reach what I believe is going to be a very strong, durable & fast package. Today the drives are being reassembled w/ several upgrades ILMOR has implemented into all their new builds. These upgrades have come about as a result of their continued testing & the feedback received from their racing / pleasure boat customers all of which has been ILMOR Engineering validated first. Best of all the upgrades are being provided to existing ILMOR Indy Drive customers free of charge.
Ben Robertson's boating technical know how, racing background & overall performance boat seat time have helped me eliminate the wasted time & money associated w/ trial & error testing. Most often he's got me dialed in from the start but we A / B just to validate.
Hering has stood beside this project all the way as well having shipped numerous props to us for testing, crunching the #'s & providing recommendations as to what combination is going to yield the optimum results.
If everything goes according to plan I'll have the boat back next week & there will be way less hunt & peck 101 on this thread & way more actual test results w/ video
Pic 1 (upper left corner is stk lowers as received, all others post blueprinting)
