What is the best way to slow down from 60+mph when approaching a boat wake or some rough water? It is best to pull back on the throttle quickly? Or trim the drive down deeper into the water? Or put the trim tabs down? I would like to slow down quickly without putting extra strain the on boat/motor/drive. FYI, Boat is a 25ft I/O with 454 and Bravo 1. Thanks.

Trim and tab it down a little and then pull back on the throttle just as you hit the wave. Fly off the wave and back onto the throttle.

Are you talking about slowing down to roll over the wave or jump?

Its best slow down normally. Chopping the throttles and putting it back down is more strain than having to plan off again.

I always de-throttle and trim down at the same time. Not sure if the trim angle helps the braking, but I do it to have the correct position for getting back on the power.

And by surface drive?

When I'm running over 90 I back off the throttle slooooowly and start dropping drive back in but not too fast so boat doesn't bow steer , but at sane speeds I just pulll back the throttle and dig drive in,Smitty

I say just buy an Apache. Generally, I accelerate into oncoming bumps and only cut the throttle if props break the surface.
