Boats vs. Planes
5 Attachment(s)
I never thought I'd enjoy a past time as much as I do boating. However, started flying less then a year ago and I'd have to say I'm pretty much addicted. Got my private, then complex gear rating, and now finishing up my IFR rating. Went to texas yesterday and bougtht a plane. It cruises at 270mph and can fly at 25,000 feet.
If anyone has thought about getting there pilots license I'm here to say, do it. I'll still boat but my no. one hobby has now become aviation. Update: Check out page 9. 25,000 feet flight at 400mph GS |
Congrats !!!
That is great !!! :drink: |
My buddy decided just flying was to boring and for the last two years has been doing stunt flying.
|
Props R Props.
Nice ride! |
Congrats man. You have a new way to get to Kelleys Island when the lake turns snotty (yeah right, like the Ciggie wouldnt handle it!):drink:
Are you gonna have the planes prop labbed? |
Great plane by the way! I've been flying for 28 years!! I agree its a lot of fun and a great way to get to poker runs!!
|
Mooney?
|
Columbia 400 I see, nice.
|
NICE panel!!!!! whats the specs????
|
Thanks guys,
Plane was designed by lancair then perfected by columbia and now has been bought out by cessna. It's the fastest fixed gear single made. Its carbon fiber/fiberglass. 310hp twin turbo charged continental engine. Has G 1000 avionics, synthetic vision, WASS, TKS (for ice), built in oxygen. Very fast but not meant to haul many people. Ohio to florida in under 4 hours. Ohio to cuba on one tank of fuel. |
Very nice Congrats !!!!! :coolcowboy:

Very cool....How tough is the learning curve compared to step bottom, 2K+ HP boats?

One of the great things about flying is that it sure makes boating look cheap! Congrats on the new plane, you will love it!
|
Congrat's, that is a nice looking plane.
|
Nice, I like it. Great way to get there in a hurry. Enjoy.

Sweet ride Jer Good Luck with it!
|
Awesome airplane! Makes me miss my Mooney... Some of the best memories I have were in the air. If you're ever out bumming around, check out Buckeye Executive (9oa5) That's my home airport, and it's about 3 miles from my house. Drop in, I'll buy ya lunch!

How do you like the Joystick vs. a conventional yoke or stick?
Beautiful plane BTW. |
Nice rides! Both the plane and the boat.
|
You are my hero. I am trying to sell my boat and get a plane. Looking at a Piper, Cessna, or Cirrus. Anyone want to work out some type of trade let me know...

Very cool plane! There is a restaurant/bar with outdoor seating at our local airport (BMI). We like sitting out there in the summer and watch the small planes taxi up to eat dinner.
|
Congrats on all that . Very exciting.
From Day 1 when you decided to take lessons, how many hours of teaching have you taken to get to this point ? How much did the lessons cost to this point ? How much did you have to spend in plane rentals to get to this point ? Does having a private license nullify your life insurance ? Have you ever left on a long trip and ran into bad weather that you couldnt go around or surprised you ?? Now that you have done all this and from what you now know, if you were going to start all over again would you choose fixed wing or helicoptor ?? Kudos to all the guys on here that can fly !!!!!!!!!! |

I started flying in July. I did not have a lot of previous experience. I flew at least twice a week every week. I still haven't missed a week of flying. It's the way to do it rather then spreading it out over a long time. To get your private license you need to pass a medical, written test, check ride, and oral test. My instructor didn't screw around, I solo'd at 9.5 hours and passed my privates with 40 hours which is the minnimum requirement. I have close to 100 hours now. This plane is really geared for a 200+ hour pilot but I'm going to get great training and will be there before summer. Private license allows you to carry passengers and fly at night. IFR allows you to fly in clouds and inclement weather. Also all my trainging has been in the G 1000 avionics and is a great safety tool. It cost about 6K to get my pilots license. The plane I bought is a hot rod and the rental rate I've seen can be as high as $300 and hour. I bought my plane and am not going to figure out what it's costing me. Just like the boat, if I really knew I'd loose the fun. Also I have taken helicopter lessons and be it that they are cool. They are slow and take more work to fly, where in the plane I get in the air and hit auto pilot and relax.
Congratulations !!!!!!!!!!! |

Does having a private license nullify your life insurance ? Same goes for diving, recreational diving 60 ft or less no big deal, free diving (no tank, hold your breath) 80-100 ft and you maybe uninsurable. |
Congrats on the new plane & getting your licensing!
I love to fly too....from the back seat with a cocktail, but I love it! It would take me YEARS to be able to fly anything we have, so I just leave it to the professionals, lol. You'll be happy to have the plane when Poker Run season comes back around. Have someone haul the boat to the run, & you can just zip on over, as well as get out of there on Sunday whenever you want  Keep having fun with it, & be safe! |

I wish I could say not bad. However I'm still a rookie compared to 1000 hour pilots, so my pucker factor is there. It's actually not a bad thing though, being comfortable and complacent leads to accidents. Just making sure I'm never the first one to the crash site. :)

Congrats on the new plane and your pilot license. I've been flying twenty five years, lots of fun. Sold my last plane two years ago, a Comanche 250. Started with Cessnas, Beach Bonnaza. Great way to go on vacation. Have fun be safe.

Congrats!!! Stop by 1K1 next summer!!:drink: I'm building a 4 bedroom 4 bath hanger that will hold 4 planes. Great bar on the airport we could party at.:drink: We should put a fly in poker run together. I will host the Wichita stop!:drink: We could take a week and hit four or five stops. Another one could be Grand lake 3O9er and we could go boating there!! I'll host that stop as well. Then we could go to LOTO and on and on!! Better make Florida a stop as well!! Anyway kind of a cool idea if we could put something together.

I give you credit. You go fast in everything. Congrats
|
funny this came up. have always wanted to fly. always been fascinated with aviation. back in the day I remember my x kidding around "no, you can't have a plane!"
ran into an instructor through work just a week ago who gives lessons here locally. we are looking at late march/early april. does $165/hr sound right? I may never own a plane, but I'm going to learn to fly one! |
Good luck and be safe. I have many friends w/ small planes and no way will I fly with them. I'll take 1st class commercial or my dually w/ the boat behind it.

I am sure planes are wonderful.
I skipped from page 1 to here only to say you can't go slow in an aircraft[someone may have said it] but you can in a boat which is social thing more than anything else. |

Is that for the plane and instructor? long story short its around 5000.00 to 10000.00 to get your pilots license
we didn't get too deep into it as we are 3-4 mos away and it was 4am at the hospital both working. Cessna. I thought she said it was a 4 seater when I asked? Should have asked her more about the plane. We had some off-handed conversation about maintenence requirements/schedules ect. She seemed very knowledgable and at-ease with the few things we did talk about. Kind of shocked me as she is YOUNG like 25 young. Says her father has been flying for 30 years so I take it she had an early introduction? the rate sounded pretty reasonable to this novice as one thing I have understood is that they are as expensive to keep on the ground as they are to fly? Plus all the requirements/maintenence and fuel? |
