You guys are all WRONG!
I purchased 3 Harbor Freight STORES for the cost of TWO Snap-On wrenches! :party-smiley-004: |
Anyone ever see the little Snap-On 1/8" drive set? It comes in a little red plastic case with a 1/8" drive handle and 4 very small scockets, 3/32" thru 3/16". Looks more like a toy than a real tool. A friend gave me this set and I have never seen another one.

Its a smaller standard 4s series in less than perfect condition,no one wants the small boxes. If I had taken it in trade I would be lucky to get $300.00 for it off my truck. There is really no market for them unless someone wants it to use as a large cart. |

Matco tools back on top!!!!!!!! .:lolhit::lolhit::lolhit::lolhit::evilb::evilb::ev ilb::evilb::evilb: |
I think I have at least one of every tool brand.. lol
For me the SnapOn screw drivers are a must. I like the craftsman pro 3/8 flex drive better than the snapon flex. I like the gearwrench open end set Sharkey hooked me up with last year. and my craftsman stuff has its place in the tool box as well as even some harbor frieght and chicago stuff. As far as a toolbox goes, call me cheap, I just never saw the value of a high end box. Plus, when I was shlepping around on boats we worked in the field and the tool box stayed in the shop... My plastic Plano box was a definite necessity. |

Tool manufacturer and distributor Matco is the riskiest investment on the top-10 "most popular" list, with more than one third of its SBA-backed loans going bad. Yeah man we beat Quizno's by over 10%. I really hope everyone realizes I am being very sarcastic. I am a Matco distributor. |

This has been a good thread, Having bent wrenches for 20 yrs I have quite a collection of the big 4. What blows peoples minds the most are the two purple Matco street rod editions setting side by side. I found that having 2 or3 of each brand that breaks the most ( impact wobblies) I can grab another & keep going, working on commision time is money. I like my Matco boxes because they are built very well but service wise I have 2/3 snapon 1/3mac 1/3 matco. Also craftsman for the truck & boat. I added ratchet wrenches to both of them cause they are the bomb.

Tool manufacturer and distributor Matco is the riskiest investment on the top-10 "most popular" list, with more than one third of its SBA-backed loans going bad. Small business loans may be Wall Street’s new cesspool. A suit filed yesterday in New Jersey federal court alleges that TD Bank and franchise distributor Matco Tools were complicit in underwriting hundreds of fraudulent small business loans over a four-year period dating back to 2003. In their suit, David Villano III and his father, David Villano, Jr., claim that Matco, a subsidiary of publicly traded Danaher Corp., and TD Bank established a scheme to dupe “unsophisticated borrowers” into signing loans that were destined to fail. The suit alleges that Matco doled out inflated annual performance projections to Cherry Hill, N.J.-based lender Commerce Bank, which was acquired by TD four years ago, in order to get a Small Business Administration loan approved. Alamy Matco Tools franchisees allege they were victims of a financial fraud involving the company, a unit of Danaher Corp, and its lender, Commerce Bank. “Matco’s upper management . . . devised a scheme to secretly make income projections to TD and other SBA lenders that would only be disclosed to the SBA lender,” in order to satisfy the bank’s lending criteria, the suit alleges. Matco established the system to grow its franchise business, and Commerce Bank officials rubber-stamped the SBA loans because it allowed the bank to collect interest on the doomed debt until it eventually imploded, the suit claims. The bank turned a blind eye to the inflated projections, according to the suit, because SBA loans are guaranteed by the government with as much as 90 percent of the losses covered. Loans to Matco franchisees had an unusually high default rate of 37 percent at the time that one of the plaintiffs’ loans was underwritten in 2004, according to the suit. “It’s unfortunate that SBA loans, which are designed to assist aspiring entrepreneurs and benefit the economy generally, could be used for such deceitful purposes,” said Jerry Marks, an attorney at Marks & Klein representing the Villanos. A spokeswoman for TD declined to comment, and a Danaher representative could not be reached. The most amazing thing about this to me is that Matco was ever even ABLE to somehow get the SBA to work with its dealer force.

Huh, sure am glad I got outa there when I did.

Well, I own all the brands and I used to be a Matco dealer. I own a snap-on tool box and I like Matco's box a lot better. To me Construction is better, detailed choices are better and unless you spend more money with snap-on the red paint really sucks. I like matco screw drivers better, but like snap-on wrenches and ratchets better. A lot of the other items come down to price as other manufacturers make the tools for both companies. Matco is owned by danaher. Danaher is bigger than snap on and MAC together. Craftsman tools are good for little jobs but plan on getting a busted knuckle or two with them. MAC and cornwell tools are of close quality to snap on but not as close as matco. If you want swivel impact sockets go matco, you will not be disappointed. Imoa

The "Cardshark" thread of the tool business.:lolhit: |
I am a tech by trade....having said that, the best weekly service gets my business. I have ALOT of tools! Snap-on, matco, cornwell and very little mac. What I have experienced over and over...craftman don't hold up in my kind of business, they are junk and break all the time, sure they (most) of them have life time warranty but dont want to go to sears every week. They would be fine for tools at the house but I do not buy them for work...they don't hold up. If you want to buy good quality tools to last years and years, buy from a tool truck. Snap-on are great tools but very pricey.. I am very serious in my tools and the selection, thats what i make my living with. I buy from the big 3 snapon-matco-cornwell. Cornwell arn't big in some areas but i have been using their tools for years and they hold up just like the rest of them but much less. Mind you I have broke all of them at one point or another!!
|
All the big Franchise truck,s are dropping like flies I'm 100% independent and biz is booming everyone is sick of the outrageous prices and **** service . When I was a snap on dealer for 12 years I took very good care of my customers. when everything was paid off all Snap on wanted is you to buy another franchise and run 2 trucks. They did everything they could to put me out of biz. Snap on make a tone of money on the 6000 dealers paying hem 11% of there loans they owe I begged for help and got ****ED!!!!!!!
I now sell tools like Ingersol rand OTC KD Gearwrench and on and on and most of these Co. tools are re branded for the other guy,s and just as good. they each have there best like snap on wrenches but I could sell you a awesome set of Gearwrench combination box open end form 1/4 to 1 1/4 for $179 and you get the met. 7 to 24 mm free. sold 30 sets in one week, Mac hardly makes anything and same with Cornwell. My prices are 1/2 -2/3 the price of the other guys I have been independent for 5 months and have over 154 people on the books as of Fri. AND I OWN IT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! O ya and over the year I found out the tool doesn't make the tech. |

I'm a dealership technician and matco and snap-on have their highs and lows. IMHO matco makes a better ratchet with a lower profile and more teeth. they have soe innovative tools and have the same warranty, and are a little cheaper than snap-on. but snap on has some awesome ratchet wrenches, prybars, screwdrivers, picks... snap on boxes are good. i have one. i love it. matco claims to be stronger. but i dont care for the detent locks in the matco boxes. the snap on boxes with the grip latrch is the way to go!
we also have mac, and cornwell tool trucks that stop by. i dont buy anything from either lol I say a mix and match of matco and snapon is fine. pepper in a little craftsman, lysle, and otc tools and you will have all the brands i have. And a harbor freight ball joint press. I keep breaking that damn thing. they keep replacing it. |

Believe it or not but Matco, craftsman, gearwrench(kd tool), and Armstrong are all owned by the danaher corp. a Matco ratchet is identical to a gearwrench and an Armstrong, only difference might be a more comfortable handle and the price tag. But they all come fom the same place. On average I would say the Matco is three times the price of the other two for the same product. Snap on ratchets may not be perfect but are far superior in many ways. they are not a commodity, the only place to get one is from snapon, you won't find them rebranded and sold thru other outlets.
I break both matco and snap on stuff. But i am fixing things every day all day. so, im hard on tools. i did just grill by matco guy withe the info you provided me :lolhit::lolhit: |
